    Default parcel shelf

About a week ago i had a thread on here saying that my 6x9s bass is distorted. Anyway seen someone that has similar speakers to mine, and they are heaps better, but he has cut a hole in the metal shelf under the wooden parcel shelf and mounted the speakers there. My speakers and mounted on the wooded shelf and it vibrates heaps. I have had to wedge cardboard everywhere to stop it rattling and vibrating as much.

Would this be the reason that the bass is distorted? How do i go about cutting a hole in the metal shelf to screw the speaker there? Also i have seen people with those raised speaker pod things. I dont know what there called, but i think they can just screw on top of the parcel shelf so you dont have to cut any holes. Do they go alright?

    Cheers.

I wouldnt go cuttin the metal shelf, sum pll say it will maek ur car unroadworthy as there is a stuctural defect. And i wouldnt risk doin this, i was goin to go do this but after reading a few threads i decided not to.

I would just go to bunnings or sumwhere n get a nice peice of 8-12mm mdf board and either bolt it to the bottom side of ur parcel shelf or stick it there with sum think like no nails.

This will stop ur shelf rattles and will give a hard surface for the speaker to play off.

Im looking at doin this to mine in the next couple weeks, im ova the rattles it makes

Where have people mounted there 6x9s? Here is a couple pics of mine. 1st pick is with the speaker in place, and second shows where the hole is. Is this an ok place to have the speakers? Its the only place that is raised enough to fit them in without having to cut the metal part under it.

I think i am going to buy some MDF to see if that fixes the problem. With the MDF should i just cut two pieces. One for each raised part on each side? Because i dont see how one big sheet would fit under the parcel shelf.

    Cheers.

yeah man they will help you out, my pioneers are in my parcel shelf the same as yours and they dont rattle or anything, so just hit them up and you might be able to get it all worked out. if the sound is distorted its likely the speakers are touching metal on your car, if they do this it will make a distorted sound, i thought my amp was stuffed until the guys at audiotech fixed my parcel shelf and it was all good again.

Well the magnet bit on bottom of speaker is only couple mm's away from the metal under parcel shelf, so i had to put some foam stuff in between the magnet and metal to stop vibrating. You can see the spongy foam stuff in the second pic. That might be the problem you think?? I will have to go see them tomorrow if i have time. Thanks for your help man.
