    Default modifying my stock setup

Hi guys.. just wandering if you guys could lend some advice.

Basically.. i dont know a whole lot about car stereos and all that. I really want to keep my stock head unit ( i own a vx berlina), but I would like to improve the sound a bit.

My friend found a mod on this forum that lets you install RCA's in the back of the VX head unit and he has connected a small amp and subwoofer to this. For a stock head unit, it sounds wicked.

Just wandering.. does anybody have the link to this?
Also I have heard that you can connect it another way by using a low level converter.. is this true and is it hard?

Also... I really dont want too much bass, so I wont be looking at buying something that is really up market. What size should I get? I was thinking of buying one off ebay.. and would obviously need an amp as well.. but don't really know what one to get either.

Any help would be much appreciated

Just quickly.. found this on eBay... might be suited to my setup?

mate that would be an alright setup if you wanted an "alright setup"

id buy a brand new clarion sub (120 boxed) and a 4 channel amp off ebay (130) they pump out an easy 70w rms, the 4 channel amp should be connected to your rear speakers and the sub, you will also need an amp wiring kit, my mate had one off the amps off ebay boss audio it was and it did crank for a ****ty amp. this would be plenty enough power for your system so your looking at, i dont know about the stock head deck any after market unit will whoop over your stock unit.

    sub 120
    amp 120
    amp kit 80
    install 100

    $420

hmmm, your better of doing it properly, the amp is max 250 watts peak and the sub is 600, i cant really say, do u have a price range? are you going to be running better front or back speakers? amplified?

At the moment, im not really planning on putting in new speakers, just really would like to add some bass to my current system. Basically, I just want to add some bass to my current system as cheaply as possible and not really worried about expansion in the future (eg. better front and back speakers). Really just want something that will do the job basically....

Is that a big problem that the Bass is 600watts but the amp is 250?

Wat uve found would b more than enough bass that ud want prolly a lil 2 much but thats ok u can always adjust ur gains on the amp so it doesnt sound over powering over the stock speakers id say that would b the cheapest way 2 get bass keeping ur stock head unit and not amping ur stock speakers aswell

Thanks for the reply mate... thinking I might go with that idea.. Just quickly, I found this amp on ebay.. would I be better of getting this.. eg is it a better amp? And what does it mean that its a 4 channel.. does this mean I can connect my speakers to it? Many thanks

it would b a better amp if u wanna amp up 1 pair of either ur front or rear speakers u wouldnt b able 2 do all 4 aswell as a sub as 1 channel = 1 speaker if u got the 4 channel amp u can do wat burnout bro said but being stock speakers id imagine amping them up would also need the gains turned right down so they dont distort prolly would b a good idea 2 upgrade ur speakers if u were 2 amp them up but thats up 2 u
