    Default Asking For Opinion

Just would like to post up my audio setup and see what the resident experts think... which part lets it down, if any, etc etc

Sony MP3 head unit. Can't remember model number unfortunately but its a few years old.

Connected directly to head unit are a pair of JL Audio Evolution TR1500 (i think its 1500 but definitely TR series) splits

Preout from head unit runs to a JL Audio e1200 in the boot hooked up with 4 gauge cable

e1200 is connected to a response 12" DVC with voice coils in parallel. Sub is mounted in a crap pre-built sealed enclosure, which I know is letting it down a bit but it does ok for a cheapie.

Leaning more towards SQ but I do like my music loud. The output of the e1200 is more than sufficient for me to deafen myself so it doesn't need to go any louder. I plan on building a proper tuned box some time when I have a few bucks spare change to go buy some 18mm MDF.

    True,

Well you know my opinion on RESPONSE!! lol

I think that properly tuned enclosure will make a hell of a difference.

There is nothing wrong with JL as they are on a Par with Infinity Reference range.. which are great for SQ.

I would say a decent amp to power your Component at the front will make a big improvement.

Some thing that gives you great options to tune them, through the amp setting.. the T4002 is a great option for that though not cheap.. it may be worth you while to look at the EFX HD-6002 got a huge special from Scosche on these and they are Selling for $235.00 for JC Memebers Delivered - that is MORE than HALF PRICE and a very nice 2 channel.

Though again depends on budget, preference etc.

    Cheers

I used to have a JL Audio 12W0 (low budget JL) but I bought the response one for my jukebox project. I found that it had a better sound and could be pushed a lot harder so it went into my car instead.

Are you able to get Sony XA-300? I want one for the inputs as its cheaper than buying a new head unit but can't find them in Australia.

yes you are right for $270 I might as well spend some more and get a new head unit. I thought they were cheaper than that cause I've seen them a couple of places very rarely for $99 (ebay) and some other place that I couldn't get it from for some reason that escapes me right now.

Not that big a requirement however! A proper tuned sub box and some more sound deadening is on the cards I think.

We stock the Accumat which is just as good as the dynamat, both .6 and .45 which is the one for the doors.

The Dealer Price is almost $200.00 - the best I could do one for is $215.00 -- the XA-300 that is!!!

I never liked sony head units. I love pioneer head units. They sound great, look great and have one of the best user interfaces around. Just got myself a DEH-P8850MP. I love it. However, you don’t need to spend a fortune. The lower end pioneer units are far better than their sony counterparts imo.

if you can't afford to upgrade it now make it the next thing you upgrade. I'm sure you can flog the old one off in the trading post for a good price if it's in good condition.
