hey all this may sound like a stupid question but i need to know...would i be able to wire up a amp and a sub in my statesman with using the stock head unit(stacker)??
the big issue is that the signal coming from the head unit is designed to power speakers not an amp so, quite simply, it IS doable, but its better to replace the headunit so you can run RCA's and whatnot for a better signal, and besides, 10/12 stack or not, you can fit 8 hours of music on a normal CD-R ( mp3 format ) which is plenty to carry around.
but back to the point, it is doable, but not preferable, if you would like to retain the wheel controls, im sure there are controller boxes out there for certain models of HU's to handle that......maybe.*1
*1 you take this advice knowing that i honestly don't know jack compared to many other members

omg i forgot about those controls!!! o well..i think im gonna have to replace the head unit because it keeps stuffing up anyways. well thanks for that!
no probs, but again, with a head unit spend a couple of dollars on one with a remote, once you learn to touch type with it all will be good
personally i just have a HU atm ( cheapest pioneer MP3 ) so no remote for me but i can work the unit without getting too stressed on road so its not really an issue.

Hey mate
Next week I will be putting some gear into my Stato - It is all standard with some JBL 2 ways in the standard spot in the parcel shelf, and a CLarion sub and 4 channel amp in the boot (I'm not one for car audio, but found all these lying around).
I don't want to spend money on the stereo, so I will be using the stock headunit with standard stacker and steering wheel controls.
Will let you know how it sounds (If the signal isn't too ****) when it is all in
