OK, this has got me stumped!! while driving yesterday, my amp cut out, meaning my sub and rear speakers went with it, i just thought ok, its just a fuse, but no...the power cable fuse under the bonnet is fine, and so are the fuses on the amp itself. the protection light doesnt even come on, checked the earth, all good there, the onlt thing i can think of would be the remote wire? i cant check that behind the head unit because i dont have the special tool to get the clips out...
what do you think??? couldnt be a blown amp could it? its onlr 6 months old!!
thanks,
craig
WOW! dont all reply at once guys, the amont of replys is overwhelming
ha ha
Hey Craig.
Do you have a meter? Or know someone who does??
Just a thought - I have seen fuses that have gone bad, but from all outward appearances they look fine. The very BEST way to make sure that's all OK is to first measure the voltage at the +12 terminal of the amp - should be nice constant 13 or so volts. Then power up the H/U and test the voltage at the REM terminal - should be close to 12V. If it's not, then you have a problem somewhere between the HU and the amp along the remote wire. Some head units have a protection fuse on the REM output as well, in case of a short circuit.
If you DO have voltage at the REM terminal, then go back to the +12V terminal and measure again - should be good clean battery voltage. If it's NOT, then double-check your main fuse, and the connection to the battery positive terminal.
If after you've double and triple checked those things, then the amp is definitely broken. Only six months old, should be under warranty. What breed is it??
Cheerz, hope this helps a bit.

nope, no power or protection light
Check that ur fuse hasnt blown, would be the first thing i would check if i didnt have power.
this happened to me. i thought it was the remote wire. check the connection to the battery and make sure any connection along the power wire is soldered and heat shrinked / electrical taped.
Also if you have a test light (cheap as from repco or supercheap) and if you have access to the remote wire at the amp end check to see if you have power there.... if not then trace wire along back through the car and test along the way to see if you have a cut or nick somewhere which might of lost power
Is there anyway you can pull the side panels of the dash and get access to the wiring on the backof the deck to see if you have power there
Hope it helps
