Question amp power cable, No hole in firewall. :(

Have i am trying to install my sub and amp and can't find any hole in the firewall the run my power cable through
I have had a good look and have found one just under the fuse box but its packed with the wiring loom and i have found a few around the brake booster but they are behind the dash (speedo) and i can't use them without pulling my dash out (i wouldn't know were to start)

So where should i run it and can i drill a new hole around the fuse box area and still be able to pass road worthy? you can't cut the parcel shelf the fit 6X9's, so can you drill a hole in the firewall?

    thanks for anyone who replys

There are numerous holes in the firewall, find one with a rubber grommet and cut a slot in it with a sharp trimming knife like a stanley. Poke a feed wire through find it then tape all the wires you want to run to it and pull them through.

Just drill a new hole somwhere out of sight & go to burson/repco & get a wiring grommet the same size. Problem solvered.

the clutch cable grommet is on the drivers side near the brake booster. It looks like a pain to get to from inside but with the fuse panel cover removed its not too bad.

On my cars I use the engine loom grommet on the passengers side because its easiest to get to. Unfortunately its not the easiest to put a hole in as its like 2 inches thick in the centre.

I bought a cheap and nasty soldering iron from the warehouse and used it to melt a hole through. (taking care not to come too close to the engine loom)

With a bit of patience, an old soldering iron (it'll be buggered after doing this) and something to lubricate the cable, you can get 4GA cable through the resulting hole without too much pain. I'll post some photos in a minute

this is the clutch cable grommet that most people use. I am using it to run the vacuum line for my boost gauge.

    Different angle...

The engine loom grommet. Sorry about the dark photo... I couldn't get a good picture. You can at least see where the red cable disappears into the grommet.

over time the outer layer of the power cable (insulation) will rub against the metal of the chassis. Because the chassis of the car is the negative you will have the positive (power cable) touching the negative (the chase) which will cause a short, and to stop damage the fuses will blow. If a fuse fails to blow it will cause damage to the car.

So if you drill a hole in the firewall go to Repco or alike and get a grommet to place in the whole to stop wear and tear on the cable.
