Lately we have got a few question on the Pioneer Range of Head units
Most have been about American Units which can be Identified by the "5" missing from the third digit in the model number
Take the DEH-P6850MP which is the Australian Model.... the AMERICAN model is DEH-P6800MP, this goes for the 2007 models that have been released.
E.g. DEH-P6950IB AUST ---- DEH-P6900IB USA
No what you need to know about the USA models... there RADIOS dont WORK with AUSTRALIAN FREQUENCIES....... that is IT! can not FIX!!!
as for most of the Models that are the AUstralian Model on ONLINE AUCTION sites they may be the correct model, though from what we see, hear and know of ... 99.99% of them DONT HAVE THE SERIAL NUMBER either of the Head Unit - just near the Pioneer Specs or ON THE BOX.
With this removed all WARRANTIES are NULL and VOID.... we can not help you with them.
Though the common cause of a Pioneer Head Unit to fail is that the RCAs have Been SHORTED during installation causing the PCB circuit protector - FUSE to blow.
Hope this helps and cuts down the question on theses head units, or should I say the mistake of purchasing something from an overseas seller that thinks they are based in australia that you wait 2-3 weeks to get and find out it is wrong or it warranty is void.

the bit about the radio is not entirely correct i purchased a pioneer 6700 (which is an american model 2004 i belive) off ebay some time ago now and the radio functions perfectly on fm and only problem i have on am is the stations are not the right numbers but still tune in clearly and it also has serial numbers in correct locations. I guess it comes down to who you purchase your unit from, do your reaseach and beware but dont completely rule out this option.
The seller i purchased from was australian and has a store and also handles all warrenty issues only difference i have found apart from with the am radio is price, i saveed about $150 over the australian model.
the radio will work just fine. from 88.0 - 108.0 just like all the others. If it is a JAPANESE headunit then you will have issues.

The main issue is warranty... Ebay stores claim to have warranty on their products, yet this means you have to pay postage too and from the country they sourced the unit from and hope it arrives back OK. I've seen many people save heaps by buying through eBay, install it themselves, stuff it up and have to pay Pioneer/Alpine/Kenwood/Clarion Australia to fix it and there goes your savings. I've even seen pro installers stuff it up then refuse to pay for the unit repairs as it COULD have been faulty before they touched it.
I've bought speakers and subs from eBay but wouldn't buy head units or amps as they're to costly to repair not under warranty.
