    Default sub box prices

i made a dual 12 inch sub box, carpeted.
i was jus wondering, if i try and sell it, how much shud i be asking?
it cost me 70 to make.
    it weighs 20kgs and dimensions are 900mm x 500mm x 400 approx.
im thinking around the $90 mark?

Are you a professional carpenter or cabinet maker? If not, then your asking way too much.

i learnt my lesson years ago with buying sub boxes when i knew nothing about car audio........never buy them......always make em yourself.......i made a 71 litre 91mm (port diameter) ported 16MM thick MDF box for my JL W3 V3...........best thing i ever did........i pull MONSTER bass from that single 12" sub all because of the box........i have tried it in smaller boxes and it sounds ok but not as good..........my point is.........nothing really...........it has nothing to do with what you posted really........ill shuttup now

not all the time...........if you have an 8" or 10" single sub you dont need a huge monster box...........or big ports for that matter..........

ah, well i have a 12 inch sub in a box. i think the sub is around 350wrms mark. i had the box sealed and yesterday put a 91mm PVC pipe port in.
    my results were:
pre- ported, wen boot was open, sound traveled alot further
ported, was a bit deeper in bass but sound didnt travel far

is your box home made or did u buy it? and make sure the sub cone is facing towards the back of your car as if it was looking out the back of your boot behind you..........this makes alot of difference.......and if the box is home made then it would have been built to sealed specifications........you need to make another box to ported specifications

    no I wouldn't pay $90 for that.

The carpeting work isn't of good quality and the box leaks like a mofo.

So you cut/drilled out a hole and added a port to your sealed enclosure? You do realise that the enclosure specs are different for sealed and ported right? A sealed enclosure will be much smaller than a ported enclosure for the same sub. Hence, your enclosure is now most likely too small for your sub. Your sub wont be running very efficiently, ie. could be louder and better quality.

I would recommend sealing it back up, or if you really want a ported box just start from scratch and build another one.

Depends what you want. Ported for SPL (loud!), or sealed for sound quality. You also need to consider boot space, a ported box will bigger, leaving you less boot space. If boot space is important to you then you might want to go with a sealed box.
And different port sizes will define what frequency your enclosure is tuned to. I'm not exactly sure how the tuning works, you'd have to look into that yourself (unless someone else here can explain it), but you tune your enclosure by using a specific port size. Different diametres and lengths have different results.

yeah, i was working with trail and error.
i could tell that the ported box was sh**. so i filled it back up, it sounds better
and yer boot space is an issue for me i guess.

aright just on the subject of box prices, how much would you fellas expect to pay for this box.

i made this custom box a while ago for my cousins bmw and it sat in their snuggly, im no pro- cabinet maker or anything like that, just handy with tools and got the know how about volume and stuff

each chamber is about 1.0-1.1 cubic feet exact air-space for the clarions, 18mm MDF, blue neon in chambers,16mm perspex back lol and the lil cars for show, lol it takes a fair bit of airspace but still sounded tip-top.

um under the carpet?? about 1 19mm screw every maybe 2 1/2 inches

cant really remember those are one of the many boxes i have built and designed.

the following picture is a box built by me for my room, non fabricated so u can see how its put together...i construct the boxes exactly the same way except in this case the box is standing up

Did u counter sink the screws in bout 10-15mm coz u said u used 18mm MDF 19mm screw wouldnt grab nething unless u were talkin bout the perspex? other than that definatly looks like u have a nack 2 makin these boxes u could prolly sell these better than most prefabed boxes even tho they r cheaper but these r built 2 specs and actually look strong
