i am thinking of getting a 12" subwoofer, since i gave mine away to a freind who had his car broken into.
is there a sub that just puts out bass instead of bass and sound?
also im on a budget 150$ max for the sub and like 200 for the amp, maybe 250$
i dont understand what they mean when they say like dual voice coils and stuff. also i just want a sub that puts out good bass.
bass is sound, just lower than the stuff that comes out the front speakers.
you tune the amp so that the sub only plays bass, so its because the amp was not setup properly in the 1st place.
go to jb/strathfield/specialist car audio placesa and have a listen to all the subs between say 150 and 250. then pick the one you like and then get an amp that puts out the same power as the sub in rms. the power must be in rms, if they say the amp can put out 2000Watts then thats maximum, which really does not mean anything.
RMS is the ONLY true power measurement....
It's a great pity that Japanese manufacturers have been allowed to quote "peak" or "maximum" power levels, 'coz they're a crock....
EDIT: Oh, BTW - Budget spend = budget result....

Nothing will touch a Pioneer 306C 12" Woofer for the price. 400w rms, $118 at JB Hifi's all day long. Audiocom here has them for $120 in the box sale on this week (Perth)... dunno if national.
Otherwise for $200 you can get 15" Soundstream PCW-15's which are 400w rms, DVC 4ohm subs. I had two in my festiva running from an Eclipse XA4000 amp. Wrong amp, but pumped hardcore. That's retail $1500 worth of two subs and amp though. Second hand digital designs 9515 is the go...

I don't know why you've said Japanese here... Most stuff out of Japan is much higher quality than most of the world and is rated accordingly (in RMS). It's the cheap crap that comes out out China, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, etc that rates it's products without RMS ratings.
check out ya local jaycar store too. Their response amps and subs are pretty well priced for what you get so it would probably suit your budget
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people
mmhmm. go to JAYCAR!..go!
motoquipe got the 306c on sale at the moment for $109. grab one of them and a 2x150w jaycar amp for some serious bang for your buck
JAYCAR amps are really good priced but there subs are overpriced.(<thats what i think but others may not agree)
Also if you only want "bass" then buy an amp that will run in "Mono". alot of 2Ch amps will run mono when bridged, plus subs running off a mono block amp sound heaps better than a stereo amp!
Goodluck!
Id have 2 agree here 2 i have 1 and cant complain 1 bit also with the money u save u can put it on ur amp budget bringin it 2 $300 from there u can then try pick up a Mono block GM 7200M if u look around also while ur doin that do wat garfa said thats really where ud wanna make ur "own decision" as it all comes down 2 personal prefrence in the end.

in the nicest way, you dont know what your saying. "bass" is just the lower frequencies and the range of frequencies a sub recieves is controled by where the amp's cutoffs are set. also typically a class AB (stereo) amp will sound better than a class D (monoblock, ie: one channel). a class d inherantly does not have as low a distorsion figure as a class ab because of its switchmode power supply.
the MAIN benefit of a class d is that they are more efficient than a class ab. hence more watts for less strain on the cars charging system (and now because they are cheaper, more watt for your dollar).
