amp for sub

im thinking about buying a kenwood 12" sub in box from either auto barn or supercheap its like 1000w or sumthing for like 149$ i think. would this amp be good enough for it or will it be underpowered?

also i only have 8 gauge cabling and im not upgrading, also my head unit on has 2 rca output left and right (red and white). will this work?

if that amp isnt good enough could you point me in the direction to a right one on ebay under the 150$ mark. as i only have a limited supply of money.

I got one of those Kenwood 12" sub and box packages, the one with the 'Kenwood' lettering and design on the box. I got mine second hand tho, but it's only a few months old, My mate bought it and I was the one who installed his stereo. But yeah, last week I swapped him 2 pretty good condition 'Sonar' 15" tyres for the amp, sub and box (the amp was a JVC one, bout 300-400w, still haven't looked it up :P), all the gear in near new condition (he only wanted $150 for the lot, but he also asked if I had any good tyres ), the only damage was 4 screws in the back of the box holding the amp, and a few rub marks on the amp from the back seat.

I sold the sub and box for $100 coz I didn't want it anyways, I rekon Kenwood are crap. Still using the amp tho.

If I were u I wouldn't get that amp off of eBay. Don't go lookin at those cheap no name brands, ur asking for trouble if u do. Check out the 'Response' amps, www.jaycar.com.au , apparently they're pretty good bang for ur buck.

Also BOSS AUDIO have cheap amps (find them at Strathfield), altho not many people like them and apparently they start fires (I know about 5 or 6 guys that use BOSS amps, none have started fires, altho 2 have had to go back and be replaced). Also I rekon the Kenwood 250w 2 channel amps go for about $150.....We use to have one but it didn't put out enuf power to run our JL 12" so we swapped it for some mags. Another mate had one and it wouldn't even power his Kenwood 10" properly, and again another mate had one running a Pioneer 12" but same story...not enuf power.

My advice to u would be to save up a little bit more and buy JL Audio, they are the BEST when it comes to budget stereo's. They not only do the top of the range competition gear, but also have models to suit people on a budget. About 2-3 years ago I bought 2 JL 12" 12WO 8ohm subs new for $340 for the pair. I also got a new JL e2150 amp for $350 (I was only on Centrelink benefits when I saved up for that stereo, I only got bout $200 a fortnight in total). The amp's power is rated low, but the guy at the shop (which knows his ****) said I'd love it. So I got it, wired up the subs in a series and they cranked hard. That was the second best stezza I ever heard (The best I ever heard was a mates, he had 2 JL 500.1 amps and 2 JL 12W6v2 subs, amps were just over a grand each, and the subs bout $900 each...the floor of my car was vibrating when my mate got within bout 20m ). Not trying to say mine is better then everyones, but out of all the stereo's I've heard it was the best when it came to BASS (except my mates stezza above).....u could hear it from blocks away, and so could the cops haha. I ###n loved it, but apparently someone thought they needed it more coz one night PEAKN6 got broken into and they took everything worth anything....even a KINCROME promo hat on the back seat...but we found that around the corner from out house a while later. Now we have another JL 12" which we bought for $20 off a mate and the JVC amp.

But yeah, don't go cheap and nasty coz chances are it will perform **** and wont last long anyways.

Don't get that amp... and don't get a BOSS amp. They're both crap.

Do yourself a favour and save a little bit more money to spend on the amp. Jaycar amps would have to be the best bang for buck amps around. They are said to be better than Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, Clarion etc. but cheaper. I have one myself and it satisfies me... 4x100Wrms (older model, before the 4x130Wrms was released) gets my 15" Kicker CVR moving quite well.
