Hey everyone, I have 2 Alpine type R 12's in an undivided sealed box and they seem to be out of phase, however it is only on certain tracks. Some tracks they hit the note perfectly, and others they seem to be just a little out and then on others they are massively out, any ideas as to why this may be?
Thanks, Matt.
k, thanks for that, will give it a shot and see how we go.
They can't be out of phase for certain songs... Your issue is most likely not phase related. What do you mean by massively out? There's a delay compared to the rest of the speakers?
The subs being out of phase to each other would mean you'd be getting next to no bass on any music. The subs being ou of phase to the speakers would cause you to lose out bass around the crossover point of the subs/speakers, so you'd have low bass, mid range and treble but be lacking midbass.
Thanks for the reply stonex although i kid you not they were not hitting in synch on all songs. It was only certain songs that it was occurring and had me absolutely stuffed as to why, they weren't out of phase with the splits up front either!!
Anyhow, main thing is i ripped the subs out of the box which had been wired by a reputable car audio retailer and installer (who have done some mass show quality installs and are very well known) and it had been wired incorrectly, so after some rewiring on my behalf they are now working fine.![]()
It appeared that one input was being shorted therefore the sub was not hitting at all, so it must have been hitting due to the pressure from the other sub. I am just so glad that the sub is fine and that it has suffered no damage, otherwise (insert shop name here) would have had one very angry man at their doorstep!
Thanks to both of you anyway.![]()
Yeah, if you have two subs and one is disconnected the other one moves slightly with the change of air pressure from the front, or if they're in the same chamber in the box, because of the air pressure from behind.
Good to hear that it's sorted![]()
