Default VT Stock Front Speaker Size

Having just taken them out, I thought I'd place this info in a searchable location for anyone else wanting to upgrade their VT II Berlina stock front speakers. I couldn't find the info anywhere, and the only piece of advice I got on the subject was actually wrong (they said they were 6" woofers):

Front door speakers are 6.3" 15WRMS 4Ohm, with almost identical dimensions to my replacement Pioneer TS-C160R splits. The tweeters also fit straight onto the dash where the stock (2Ohm) ones were, using the backing bracket supplied with the speakers.

One issue to be aware of is the cable mounts on the Pioneer woofers - they touch the (painted) metal of the door, under the stock speaker pod. Using a 90 degree wrench, I bent a small amount (~1cm square) back by around 8mm, and lined the edge of the metal with electricians tape. It then slid right in.

Also, the tweeters are 2Ohm speakers, but are made to balance on the system with a capacitor that brings them to 4Ohm (someone correct me if I'm wrong), so my 4Ohm Pioneer splits can install straight in where these were.

Finally, while you can run more powerful speakers like the Pioneers off the stock head unit, you may notice it gets a little warm after a while, and at high volumes the backlight will dim on the HU - these speakers seem to ask almost more than the HU's little amp can handle. Use an amp for best results.

Will add more info as I go during my install. Am thinking of investigating the rear door speaker size too, and putting in the front stock ones there if the size is the same (they're probably smaller though). Hope someone finds the above info useful, and thanks HotVS75 and StoneX for the additional info & thoughtful replies

Tweeters are not 2 ohm, They are still 4 ohm the capacitor u see in line with the positive is actually a 6db per octave passive crossover to stop any bass frequencies getting into the tweeter.

Interesting - didn't know that, thanks.

The tweeters do have 2Ohm stamped on their bases though, and the woofers have 4Ohm stamped on them. Any ideas how that would work? ...maybe the tweeters are wired in series somehow... wouldn't make sense though, because then it wouldn't be stereo.

    Hmm.

The TS-C160R's are 16cm, that is 6.3". They are smaller than most speakers listed as 6.5". I've installed ina few VT's and VX's and they needed slight modifications to fit actual 6.5" speakers, but not to fit 6" speakers.

The speakers aren't too much for the amp. Who told you that?

The tweeters are in parallel to the woofer. The woofers get full range audio, the tweeters have a capacitor in series with them that cuts off the lower frequencies. The tweeter being 2 ohm doesn't mean much. 2 ohm is a nominal rating, once the cone starts moving the impedance goes all over the place.

Thanks guys. It is my intention to add something useful to the forums rather than just take (as I have been recently during my install).
I appreciate the thoughtful answers. Cheers.
