its not illigal in any way shape or form
its fully ok
your only not aloud to use it for criminal gains
thats true...it's perfectly legal to won one.
But, if you show up at a crime scene with the scanner in your car...you might get away with it....show up at another one and kiss it good-bye.![]()
I know for a fact that police now use digital scanners (here in vic anyway) so unless you have a very expensive digital scanner you wont have much luck. Unlucky me bought a $300 uniden scanner about 2 months before the police upgraded to digital![]()
But if you want to have a muck around anyway, I recommend this search page for registered frequencies.

I get aussie police in nz sometimes on 75.525 cross talk due to weather this is our frequency where I am .can get it on old radios out of hilux utes pretty much any old jap car with the lower frequency radio and the standard car earial and a speaker west coast of south island dont know what area of oz it was though that I was listening too.
Interesting... i always thought it was illegal, you live and learn. Azzfox is correct though, wouldnt bother in vic - its encrypted or something
Yes, thats why i wrote "dont know if its correct though, pretty old - try and find out" *sigh*
yeh as was said before the vic police have gone digital so have mfb (metro fire brigade) but C.F.A (country fire authority) still use analoge, digital scanners will cost you bout $900 if your lucky wait a few months cheaper versions will come out as always
