Default plugging mp3 device directly into amp?

hi, just wondering if it is possible to plug an mp3 device or similar directly into an amplifer using the rca inputs? i have a 3.5mm jack to rca cable too. reason being a mate of mine has nearly finished his EH project, and is looking to keep the original look, so we were thinkin about puttin some decent 6" speakers in it with a hidden 4ch amp and running cables upto the dash where you can just plug an external source into (such as an mp3 player). so what do you think?

    cheers

you can and you can't....The headphone output on an MP3 player is a much higher output then what the Input on the amp can handle.

If you keep the volume WAY WAY WAY down low on the MP3 player then you could do it.

My honest suggestion would be to Hi-Lo convertor and then use it the volume at will. I would imagine a regular Hi-Lo convertor would be sufficient. Perhaps StoneX could tell us more.

The amps input threshold is measured in mW where as the headphone output on an MP3 player is about .5W

The only other option I could think of is if the MP3 player had a line out option like the iPods do for connecting it to Aux Inputs.

thanks mate, it would be ideal to use the headphone jack, but i suppose using the 'line out' would be good aswell, it just limits to what aux devices can be used... btw very impressive rex project your building
