Does anyone have one of these decks. I am considering getting one and am wondering if the bluetooth features are worth the extra couple hundred bucks or should i just go with the cheaper 5850MP unit? I do highway driving so using my phone (next G) through the stereo would be an advantage but does it work any good?? Any feedback will be great. Will be going into a VY.
That Pioneer unit is very very good, especially if you utilise the phone while driving.
I have fitted a number of those units, and havent had any complaints so far.
I think you will be quite happy with your purchase. How much are you paying for the unit? Being a new sponsor on JC maybe I can help?
George

I have this exact unit in my VY and it works great. So easy to install once you get the original factory unit out after stuffing around with it for 3 and a half hours, then finnaly giving up to take it into a audio joint and get them to put their little sticks into the the holes.
I went and bought a wiring loom for it as i dodn't wanna go cuttin the factory wiring incase i decided to sell the car (which is what i'm now doing, so if anyone's interested go to: VIC: 03 VY Berlina II - Very Tidy )
I can't believe how much they are now, i bought it the day after it was released $700 man if it's only just over $400 now go for it kid. Ya won't regret it.
When i buy my new car i'm gonna take a step by step photo slideshow of how to remove factory system then install aftermarket.
Hope this helps, cheers.
well i picked one up today from strathfield and will install it this weekend. will let you all know how she goes over the next few weeks

They are great decks. Best thing to do though is test the bluetooth functionallity in store on there demo boards before you purchse them. I have seen Many many new phones that wont work with the pioneer bluetooth modules. TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST!!!!
Thats all i can say about it!!!!
Once you find out it works they are unbelievable and work so well...
They seem pretty reliable with Nokia, but as said above test thoroughly before buying.
I have a similar one in my other car. My only issue is that my phone won't connect automatically. But know other people have had better experiences with them.

well after stuffing around with it a bit more on the weekend i now have it working sweetly. i was having the same trouble connecting and was doing it manually on my phone each time i got in the car, which was annoying as every time you turned off the ignition, it lost the connection. what you need to do kesa87 is register your phone in the stereo (talks you through it in the manual) and you can choose to connect automatically. so now as soon as i get in the car and the steroe is turned on, it automatically picks up the signal and connects. super easy!! (you just have to keep the bluetooth on your phone turned on.)
i also spent a bit of time putting in all my phone numbers so now when someone calls, the stereo drops out, their name comes up, and you just push the button to answer.
loving it!!
my phone is an LG through Next G with telstra and it works fine

Yes, it has handsfree via a bluetooth connection. So when you get into your car your phone automatically connects to the head unit, then if our phone rings it mutes the sound and sends your ringtone through the speakers then you can answer by pressing a button on the CD player... Then you hear them through the speakers.
Just a quick question regarding bluetooth in general. I havent used it much but am fully aware of its functionality. Im just wondering, does anyone notice that it takes away from your battery pretty bad? I make probably 5 phone calls a day on my 6230i, usually recarge it every second night and it just reaches half capacity when I do. I have noticed when I turn bluetooth on though, not that I have had it on much, but it kills the battery within the day.
I have just invested in a garman gps, which uses bluetooth and transmits it through an fm transmitter to my radio. Im just wondering if I should invest in an in-car charger if I plan to use the bluetooth option.
Flogg, I have tried everything possible and it is set up correctly, just it doesn't connect automatically untill the phone starts ringing. Some times it doesn't even connect! I deal with it any way, I have a feeling it might actually be the phone.
Kopper69, I am supprised at how little your battery life is! I have a Sony Ericsson K750I and it will last me around 5 days on a full charge and bluetooth constantly on! Has the battery life always been so bad on you phone?

I have always had the nokia's, I have never had one that can match nokia's advertised "standby time". Nokia's website says my phone should do between 150-300 hours standby, 3-5 hours talk time. If I did just leave the phone in standby and timed how long it would last, I wouldnt expect more than 72 hours out of it. I might only make between 1/2 hour to an hours calls per day, so its not as if Im a heavy user. It could NEVER last 12 days.
With my last phone, cant remember the model, but it was one of the first colour phones put out by nokia, I did try replacing the battery with an aftermarket one off ebay with a higer capacity (few hundred more mAh). It helped a little, but still could never make the hours that nokia claimed.
I havent had a chance to play with the bluetooth on my gps yet, but I did notice that the icon on my phone (normally there is an icon showing when bluetooth is on) disappeared. I went into the menu, tried to turn it off/back on, it wouldnt, just kept saying it was on. Because it wasnt on properly, gps didnt see it. Fix was to turn the phone on/off.
wikid! headin to adelaide this friday, so i'm hopin to look at one of these. anyone know where in the mall to find the best deal on one of these?

keza87 dunno what the story is mate. all i can recommend is reading the manual and making sure your phone is registered with the deck in the menu-function section when in the telephone area. you should then be able to choose to connect automatically. then when you get into the car with your phones bluetooth turned on, and the stereo turned on, it will automatically connect.
otherwise it must be your phone i guess.
good luck
let us know how you go
i have also had the feeling that my phone goes flatter a little quicker with the bluetooth turned on but it still lasts 3 or 4 days so its of no concern to me. it could actually be each time i get in and out of the car with the bluetooth connecting and disconnecting that drains it?? who knows
being bluetooth and all i was under the impression u could bluetooth songs to the head unit is this true?

[VP2NV]just looking in the manual and it says you can use a bluetooth audio player to play songs through the HU. It needs to be either A2DP or AVRCP profile though. dunno anything about it though. as far as i can tell, it wont pick up songs that are saved on my phone?being bluetooth and all i was under the impression u could bluetooth songs to the head unit is this true?
Bluetooth is only a method of connection available to two devices that have bluetooth connectivity options. Mobile phones do, some head units do, thus they can connect. If you are suggesting that an ipod or mp3 player can connect through the headunit through bluetooth, unfortunatly not. The headunit should have an aux connection though for direct cable connection. Thats different from an ipod connection again, there dont seem to be many units that offer bluetooth and ipod control without either adding one or the other to the standard unit.
Well you can bluetooth songs to the headunit but it doesnt store them it just plays them directly. It is only if the player supports the correct profile. Most phones are not set up for stereo A2DP protocol but if your a lucky person who does then this will work. Also in the enxt twelve months of so when the Ipod Bluetooth comes out it will come in very handy. Pair your ipod to your cd player and control it all wirelessly....
Technology is moving very very very fast./.... Hard to keep up but if your keen on more info on the pioneer bluetooth let me know as i am right into it.
well i have a pretty new nokia phone the bluetooth works great on it and im getting this deck today or tommorrow i think. So i am able to play songs on the headunit, but it cannot store them? thats ok cause i wasnt planning on storing them anyway, i just wanted it if a friend has a really good song on their phone and i wanna play it on my sound system i can.

It's very rare for a phone to have the streaming audio capabilities that the head unit requires to do that. I'm yet to find a phone that will stream audio to them successfully.
