Hi all...
Iv'e got pretty decent gear in my VT now, but still not happy with the sound.. i'm finding there is way too much tweeter action... i have the treble turned to half on the head unit, and have customised the equalizer to have less trebel too... I'm also finding that if i turn off the crossover on the amp, the components bass out - so at the mo i'm running the crossover on the amp and using the component crossover - would sound deadening cure this in the doors??
If i'm playing AC/DC or Metalica etc, she cranks... but some music just way too trebley... wondering if i should move the tweeters out of the stock area?
Here's what i have:
Sony Stealth Head Unit
Lightning Audio Amp (90rms to each set of components + 250rms to sub)
JBL 6.5in components in front (tweeters mounted in stock tweeter area)
Audio Bank 6.5in components in rear
Infinity Cappa 12in Sub (300rms)
What's the best setting of gains on an amp? i have been mucking round with them, but having trouble!!! Sub is going perfect however..
Cheers!
If you are in Adelaide shoot me a pm, i would be glad to have a listen and see if i can pin point your problem.

Would luv to mate... but i'm in Auckland.... New Zealand.. ha!
um ok,
the x-overs of the amp limit the bass/trebal the driver will recieve.
so in the front speakers case the bass will cause the cone to excurse past its linear excursion (read: distorsion) and will damage it. as to setting the x-overs on the amp, just have them set around 100-120hz and adjust from there listening for distorsion.
as for your "bright" tweeters (too harsh), on the speaker x-overs there should be a switch or a seperate terminal to connect the tweeter positive to. try -3dB. this lowers the tweeters overall sound by a little bit. the EQ of the h/u will only effect the tweeters sound at a certain frequency.
all sound deadening will do is make the speakers sound better, more punch. it will not make the speaker distort less.
as for setting the gains on an amp, i really cannot be bother writing a guide, there should be one around here somewhere, use the search, or google it.
Well, don't i feel like a dick then... shouldv'e read my instructions... i see i can take the cover off the crossover (JBL P650C Power Series) and change it to -3db... that's what i'm doing when i get home!
