sub cutting in and out but all leads have been checked. What could it most likely be?
amp going into overload protection, by overheating or internal fault
or perhaps dial down the gain a bit?
Does it only happen at high volumes?
Check your ground. And i mean really check it - with a DMM
What impedance are you showing the amp?

after further investigation i found that the sub still works but it isn't loud enough to hear. The amp is still on when it is doing this . The sub mainly stops working when driving and sometimes starts working when the car has stop either on or off. anyone got anymore ideas. This problem is really pissing me off![]()
had on old school rolla with a kicker amp and pioneer sub, and yeah amp would be on, sub would be vibrating, and you would only just be able to hear it, then it would come on for no apparent reason, car not moving me not touching anything, audio shop said amp overheating,
where is your amp located?
if you notice the sub cut out, turn the car off and let the systen sit idle for a few mins (for the amp to cool down) , then turn the stereo on and if the sub kicks in then its overheating,
otherwise its an internal fault,
hows the weather been where you are, hot or cold?
does it do it at random? or in specific parts of a song?
how are your speaker leads?
pretty much you have said it is not the amp or the woring, so therefore if you are 100% sure, it must be the h/u. try puttting the sub rca's into a differentone, say the speaker front or rear.
the sub signal wire on the harness at the back of the H/U could be a bad connection (but you said you checked all leads)
otherwise H/U fault
found the problem it was one of the rca plugs was only just sitting it the back of the headunit which much the sub only work to half its potential
