Hey all,
Just got quoted for a new sound system for the VS.
I am considering getting:
- MTX SLH-T4512-A 12" boxed sub (225w RMS) --> pumps hard
- JBL CS60.4 amp (4x60w RMS, ??w RMS bridged) --> not sure about this, couldn't test it
- Pioneer TS-C1625 6" splits (60w RMS) --> listened to these, they are great
- Pioneer TS-A1671S 6" rears (35w RMS) --> ok, but they're only rear fill
Its about $1300 installed w/amp wiring (strathfield)
Is this a good deal? Are there any components I should steer away from?
I have a slight question mark on the amp (i may be better to go for the MTX 704X ($30 more)?).
Any feedback would be great.

save like $500 and install it yourself.. it really isnt hard
get a jaycar for the amp, more bang for ya buck
sub isnt bad but there's plenty others around in that price range that i'd rather have.
like VK_308 said you'll save heaps if you install it yourself, and you could build a better suited sub box also if ya wanted to
i would steer clear of strathfield, autobarn, jbhifi etc.. places that offer to install the gear. from personal experience, they butcher your car. better to get a qualified auto electrician to do it, or do it yourself if you think you have the know-how but it isnt that hard really and saves heaps of money.
Do a few searches through the car audio section for installation guides. There are some really good ones for removing door trims to put speakers in doors and head unit installations. Just find one for a VS and away you go (pretty much the same for VN through VS, but VS one will tell you exactly what to do).
As bezz said, check out the jaycar amps. They will out perform most other amps in their price range. (even check out their splits if you want to save a bit more money)
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people
yes there are a heap of stories of bad installs but people usually dont let others know when the install is good. still DIY if you can, saving money plus you know that its done to your personal standard.
as for auto elecs, yes they could probably connect the gear but they will not be able to tune it. so there really is no pont in going to one.
What HU u got?
U would prolly be better goin 4 a little digital mono block....
& personaly i dont like MTX
Pioneer is the way 2 go i think.... But thats just me
I WISH MY GRASS WAS EMO SO IT WOULD CUT ITSELF
RE: the install
I am gonna call an installer i've heard about through several ppl 2moro (re:quote), coz strathfield's quote for install was really expensive, and i'm not that confident in installing the gear myself (and pulling half my car apart).
AND EVERYONE, YES, IM GONNA JOIN THE JAYCAR BANDWAGON. Looking at its specs, and all the rave about it on the JC forums, its hard to go past the 4x100 amp.
i have 2 agree here id steer clear 2 if it was me IMO but id also agree with garfa alot of the good stuff does get unnoticed i guess its wen uve had a bad experience ud rather not give ne second chances all i would do is listen 2 their sound boards then get my gear elsewhere

Alrite. Ive decided what I'm gonna do.
My final product list:
- MTX Thunder 4500 (sub only) + make my own box (for boot)
- Precision Response 4x100w amp (2ch bridged-sub, 2ch components)
- Pioneer TS-C1625 6" component speakers (for front)
- Pioneer TS-A1671S 6" 3-way speakers (for parcel shelf)
I got a quote from an auto elec guy today, gonna use him.
Should come out to about $1000 all up (installed + wiring)
