Hi Everyone, I need some help...
Please bare with me as I know very little about car audio or car electronics.
OK, several months ago I picked up a VN Calais in good condition, only thing is that the stereo deck was missing a faceplate, now after driving it for several months I am wanting some sound.
I recently managed to pick up a Sony CDX-R3000 deck from Super Cheap Auto for about $200 and now need to get it installed, upon inspection of the car's speaker system, it has 2 speakers (stock I would assume?) on the dash & at the back where you would expect to find more speakers it looks (the carpet is a slightly different colour) like the rear speakers were removed and covered up (why I have no idea....)
Anyway, I was wondering:-
Is there an easy way to tell if the front speakers are stock?
If the front speakers are stock can they be replaced with something better?
What type of front/rear speakers should I buy? I don’t want to spend too much, but at the same time want decent audio.
Can anyone suggest a place in Adelaide which could install the above solution?
If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Lewis
ok simple,
answer 1 = easyiest way to tell if they are stock is what brand are they? then someone can help you out if you post it back on this thread
answer 2 = hell yeah make sure you get the same size as the stocks are, if you do want to get bigger you will have to buy spacers and make sure the speakers magnets aren't to big to go into the hole and make sure they aren't to deep so you can't wind your window up and down.
answer 3 = i suggest fusion or alpine
answer 4 = go to tonkins car audio at modbury they are great guys and will give u good advice and do not buy from strathfield. If you don't want to go there go to jb hifi at modbury as well, they just opened on smart road.
by the way where in adelaide are you??
cheers

Thanks for the reply Scott...
I'll find out what brand they are tomorrow & post it.
Do JB perform installations...? Or only sell the speakers etc? I’m located in the western suburbs, 10 minutes from the City.
Thanks again
Lewis
Ok here are my findings...
The front speakers are:
Pioneer TS-G1050
Coaxial Three Way
70W Max Music Power
20W Nom Power
110g (4.1oz)
Strontium Magnet
I noticed there seems to be 2 wires (Light blue & orange) running from the speakers to behind the dash & a set of separate Grey wires running from the speakers to nowhere (the cord was cut.) Any ideas?
Are the above speakers sufficient for decent audio...? I’m not after thumping loud audio, just wanna listen to some music.
All the best...
Lewis
i don't think the vn's come out with pioneer 3 ways but either way, yeah jb do perform installation well least they said they did, yeah reason i said to go there cause i am only about 5-10 minutes away from them so i have been in there and talked to them.
i didn't trust my stock wire so i ran new stuff remember that wire has been in there for about 10-15 years so it might be rusted or split or god knows what else.
cheers
