Smile keep the origional look but beef up the noise

I just gave the standard head set a rebirth and maintained the integrity of the dash without blowing the budget on both my vu ute and vx sedan.

For the ute, i fitted an amp under the passenegers seat, replaced the door speakers with alpines and fitted a hi/lo convertor behind the head unit for about $400. Result - top class sound, standard deck

or the vx sedan, amp mounted in boot under the parcel shelf, 6 x 9 speakers in the parcel shelf and replaced the four standard door speakers with 6in pioneers. Again hi/lo convertors, this time one for front and one for rear and the sound from this mod was awsome. This cost about $450 all up.

By doing this ai have sound that is top notch but does not attract the thieves and in both cases was able to maintain the steering wheel controls as well as my budget.

And it only took a day to do each, all with the great advice picked up from these forum's

I assume that he has the Front Doors and Rear 6*9's on the amps as he has used hi-lo converters, still 6 speakers is un-necesary, i have have installed this same thing for mates and honestly its not worth it, it annoys me how people assume that more is better.

It hasnt really got much to do with how loud it is. You can put your ear next to an air horn and its going to be heaps louder than all those speakers anyway. Thats not what you want. I think the point that harvma20 is trying to make is that you are not going to improve the quality or depth by adding an extra pair of speakers in a small cabin area. He does also mention that he has done it, so he is the perfect person to compare.

actually....if you LISTEN to half of those cars at shows without ever looking at them you would say they are disgusting in quality.

I remember fitting 4 15s into a GMC Tahoe fibreglassed everything in site we nearly came with excitement. As per usual we turned it on tuned it to the best of our ability and it nearly blew us clean into next week. It's a shame it sounded like crap.

Crap quality is crap quality. Doesn't matter if it's at 115db or a 155db

actually a lot of commos with 6 spkrs sound worse than 4 spkrs
most ppl would go fronts and rears off amp and then think keeping rear doors on deck will be killa but its not
my personal opionion fronts rears subs NO rear doors

$800 spent on 8 speakers will not be as good as $800 spent of 4.
it does not matter too much what anyone thinks, its just a simple fact.
sorry if that offends, but its true. "." knows his stuff and so do a fair number of others, its a concencus that more money spend of less speaker will result in a HUGE increase in quality espicially as the sound level increases.

obviously ur not 2 fussed on sound quality? $800 would get u a nice set of splits and with wats left ova some 6" or 6.5" 4 the rear or 6x9s if thats wat u want would b more than enough 2 sound almost perfect. amping them up just gets the most outer ur speakers which is wat u want

VP2NV - Once you spend some time in car audio you will find that if you want extreme quality you will find that $800 won't even pay for the tweeter from a set of splits. The sky really is the limit.

Here is a Suburban I did recently using 4x15s. This guy couldn't even get me to show up to his door without getting $350 into my hands and I hadn't even brung my toolkits with me.

And in the doors? Well, this is all that was needed.

    6" 4" and a 1"

    6" - Nakamichi

    4" - Macintosh

    1" - Nakamichi

They were entirely different but we recently overhauled it all and ended up with these in front.

In the vicinity of $2,000 NOT including the two $1,800 crossovers that control them.
