Default Took the plunge...bought a new headunit!!

Ok guys guess what... i just bought my first new headunit... a BRAND NEW PIONEER 7950UB!

Urh are they any good? ha ha?

Now well. i should be getting it soonish and just wondering...what the hell i do with it? Should i install it myself? At the moment my car came with some kenwood head unit and i dont really have an idea on how to change it over..

Plus ive got 6 speakers set up in my car, but i want to set this up properly and just run 4 off the head unit as it is designed for four. Ive got 2 at the front, 2 where the passengers are and 2 6x9's at the back.

Should i change the wiring the speakers are using? What would be my best course of action to make things right!!

    Thanks fellas!
Hope you's can help me out!

EDIT: By the way i am hoping to get a sub or two running, would i need a amplifier or wires or what, im totally "no0b" at this stereo stuff!

if you wanna run a sub
your best option is to get a mono block or any amp.
with the head unit, personally ide take it to someone coz if u wire it wrong then things can happen or something could blow ( maybe) as ive done in a mates car, we tunred the key and nothng happened, then only 1 speaker worked so if u no wat ur doing go for it,if not then take it to someone who does.
    hope it helps mate

If you have no idea, its probably worth taking it to a pro to install - HU install cost about $80. I recommend Freeway in dandenong or either Stylyn store. Now, because you intend on getting a sub soon enough, tell whoever installs your HU to run sub RCA's to the boot - this will save having to pull out the HU when you buy a sub and amp. (id also consider upgrading and amping my fronts personally) As to this, an amp requires a power wire direct from the battery, and earth to the chassis, signal inputs (in the form of RCA in this case) and a trigger wire also from the HU.

If you feel like having a crack, its not too hard in a VT, if your confident taking your trim apart and with your skills wiring

Well taking off a door trim is no problem, what sort of wiring skills are involved? Like, im pretty good with electronic sort of stuff....ive done wii mod chips if that means anything?
Is it hard to run the wires from the boot to the battery and stuff like that?

Because i basically have no clue on how to dismantle lots of stuff in my car, sure im willing to learn and give it a crack to save me some cash, but depends how hard it can be for a novice..

    hey mate
its not hard to take off the dash and re wire a H/U.if your not sure there is info on how to do it either on this forum in the how to section, or SC forum may have something.
when i first bought my vs i knew nothing about removing the dash, door trim etc but i just had a look around and found some info on what to do and slowly learned more how to do things. its not that difficult if your a bit mechanically minded.
    hope that helps.

Industry price to install a head unit is $85.

There is no need to make people feel bad if they charge the correct amount. Businesses charge this rate becuase they have rent, bills, wages and insurance to cover.

Now i dont want to make it appear like you are not a professional in what you do, but first of all do you have a premises which are fully insured in case something goes wrong? I have seen many many bad headunit fits even from so called professionals in Adelaide

If you do then perhaps u should become a sponsor on this site and offer your services and do headunits for $50 every day of the week.

If you are keen enough to try it yourself there is plenty of info on these forums about how to install head units, speakers, amps and all the rest. Do a few searches in the car audio section and see what you come up with.
Most of the 'How To' guides are quite easy to follow and are designed to help people who dont have too much experience with installing stereos.

    Good luck with it
