Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has seen/done/planned a head unit replacement in a VE commodore yet? or is everything just too integrated to bother?
Thanks!
give it time someone will make a panel
i have pulled a couple out and played with whats behind
the face pulls off easy
someone will get a double din in there very soon
maybe its just me but i really ****ing hate the whole intergrate the heater and stereo controls into 1 in general.
good for some ppl crap if you want to change stuff. hence why i will never get a BA falcon.
(high end merc is a different story though!)
Many vehicles are going this route now though...Falcon, Commodore, Liberty, Nissan....the list goes on and I forgot the rest...oh yeah, Mazda RX8
that is kinda crap, cos as those cars become more common place than the vb-vz range, it'll push audio places (headunit specialists anyway) outta business. great for the economy...not...
isn't there a connection to the speedo/tacho display as well for the VE's?

The VZ is here! About time!
as an installer i thought this also but things change and we still get theses cars in for other things
can still do spkrs amps dvd gps screans and the list goes on
more after market companys are now building things to plug in also
installers will still be round for many moons![]()
the only real people annoyed about the whole intergrated thing is people after the aftermarket h/u look and other who want the quality that ONLY an aftermarket h/u can bring.
Not true garfa, with the ve gts it has a video input which you can intergrate an alpine vehicle hub pro that has the same brain as an alpine d310e screen, with media expander, time alignment, bass focus, parametric eq. Or you can run a line driver off the speaker ouputs to run amps. i have run type r splits in the front and coax in the rear doors off the stock head unit, and run line level inputs to an aftermarket amplifier running a 12 inch sub. As long as the car has sound you can enhance it to your needs.
Anyhow, getting back on topic, there's a member here by the name of KAL SPL who has done work on the VE before. His thread is here:
VE stripped interior ! Who wants to see pics :)
Send him a PM, I'm not sure of the extent of what he's done, but it's a start.![]()
davey: kal spl is a frequently non-active member.
adeladeprosound: i will say it again alpine are not in the game when it comes to SQ from a H/U. the dvi-9990 (f1status top h/u) does not even compare against a nakamichi cda-700. heard both from a sound board using exactly the same amps and speakers. nak was hugely different. chalk and cheese.
i dont usually open my mouth usless i know what i am talking about.
plenty of options with the VE.
cant remove the standard deck so have to work with it like the BAs.
The expensive ways are using devices such as Alpine Vehicle Hub Pro or the Rockford Fosgate Processor 360
they turn your standard deck into something very similar to the after market ones. allowing all sorts of integrations.
i think alpine might have something working for the VE but not Rockford...well not yet.
other cheaper options are using a Line out converter and running amps, subs, speakers, etc off the standard deck
