sorry probably got this one in the wrong section, but wasnt sure,
My aerial is stuck up on my VX, had hard to replace, and how much do they cost for a new one?
The motor still works i can here it but the areial wont come down, it must have been bent too much.
mast is around 50-60.
motor/gears is about 70-80.
genuine holden.
do i have to take off my wheel and get in under my arch to change it?
Yep. You can get the whole Aerpro aerial package for around $100 at Supercheap or AutoBarn. This includes the motor and mast etc. I picked mine up for around $80 on sale.
I replaced my faulty Holden antenna on my VR and it wasn't too difficult. Remove the front wheel and pull the arch lining out. Make sure you earth the new antenna properly otherwise it will not work.
-pull off the pasengers side wheel.
-remove plastic arch guard.
-remove black plastic guard under glovebox and look for antenna wire. (it should run arcoss and behind the glovebox with the slack wire and connector hanging in the left kick panel.)
-if you still cant find it, remove glovebox and LHS kick panel. should be easy to see now. disconect it.
-remove antenna mount bolts and remove antenna assembly.
-remove screw retaining antenna mast (3/4 inch aluminum tube.)
-if the internal plastic rod is broken replace mast otherwise replace the motor and gears.
-installation is reverse of above procedure.
NB: since its all apart make sure the antenna ground is free from corrosion.
really its a nice easy job. cant get a bit fiddly thogh if you decide to remove the motor from the gears because the motor amature will pop out including the brushes!
