    Default mounting h/u (vt)

Hi just after opinions in the best way to mount an aftermarket headunit (single din) in a vt? i installed it a while ago but it never been properly secured. I was thinking to rivet the h/u cage to the metal housing inside, then use those keys to remove it, instead of screwing it in like i would normally do. but it is a real tight fit. might have to hammer it out some more

so how have other people done it? cheers.

you know the housing that the factory unit clips into. its was a real tight fit with the new one. so i gave it a few taps with the hammer which was enough to get it in, this was a while ago. NOW i want to do secure it properly, its just sitting there ATM. so how have other people mounted them?

so nothing is holding it in there? thats how mine is now but i dont like the idea of nothing securing it in (not that it moves anyway), and being able to remove it by just yanking it out. cheers

na nothings holding it appart from the cage the unit sits in, its a nice snug fit and it clips n locks into place i mean yer it could b stolen easy enough and wat u wanna do with urs, would b 2 stop ppl from gettin at it but i see it as if ppl have gone as far as breakin into ur car 2 get it they will get ur gear no matter wat ya do, its all covered by insurance so would get it replaced if thats the case.

im sure all u'd need 2 do tho is pull out some of the dash so u can get enough room there 2 screw or rivet the cage in place

hmm..... personally i am more or the high-tensile stainless bolt and screw approach.
even if you car is broken into, it does not mean it needs to be easy to get the unit out.
    plus i hate bashing things.

pulling the dash off doesnt give you any extra room. and that steel box is part of the structure of the car.... you could go to the trouble of doing all that but all cd players come out the same so im guessn if sumone was to break into your car chances are they would know how to remove it, if its snug fit which they fit very well then i wouldnt bother trying to secure it.

yep ended up just wedging the h/u cage in there, then sliding the unit in and using those keys to remove it. now my other problem, removed the 7 globes in heater controls. All blown! im wondering how on earth that happended but theyre not cheap. might have to raid the wreckers.

Globes tend 2 do that with the slightest bump or knock if u dont find some at the wreckers u can get some at dick smith or jay car but u need 2 do some re wiring and mayb some soldering 2 fit them in the globe holders coz no1 else supplies them with the holders appart from holden but they rnt cheap speak 2 jesterarts on how to fit them.

Tho do a test with a test light 1st and see if ur gettin power there somtimes it could b just a fuse and that will tell u straight out if its the globes blown or not

i did knock mine out a little when fitting the head unit, the cage in the vt was marginally too small. when i get around to it ill take apart the dash and rivet everything in place. Right now it dont move anyway.

There is a proper mounting kit for a DIN sizes headunit for vt/vx, to fit this you just need to remove the dash surround and fit the kit to the 4 screws that secure the factory basket in. This then allows you to fold the tabs back to secure the h/u in place properly.
