hi ppl
if water came into contact with the connection of the wires and a subwoofer would that stuff the amp or the sub? and how can either be fixed, besides buying a new one...
both the external fuses are fine on the amp. but the light doesnt come on so im assuming its the amp....
stuff the amp.
it would need to be professionally repaired.
Id say your may have fried somehting... use these formulas to calculate the damage:
water + electricity = BAD
lol... is your amp wire fused anywhere else?
please post your electrical system involving your amp.
aZk.
The biggest problem is usually corrosion. Not electricity + water. Cars system is 12V. You can run 12V power in water without much problem (normal water that is, salt water is different). Demonstration of this was on mythbusters once, had a 12V electric window operating underwater without a problem. The big thing with anything electrical, be it car parts or mobile phone etc is to dismantle them asap to allow them to dry. The mobile phones are a common one, gets dropped in the water, wont work for a little while. Day later it dries enough and starts working. Person says wow how lucky am I, a week or two later the phone starts acting really strange and eventually dies. Its the tracks that begin to rust and corrode and cause the problems.
So, if its recently wet, pull it apart as much as you can. Case screws etc. Really let it dry out. After that, if its still inop, start with fuses etc. Otherwise find an electronics friend that can have a look over it for you. Fault finding is much easier when it is completely dead as oppose to intermittent.
ohh ok. well it happend about a month ago. there is a fuse inbetween the battery and the amp and that was fine too. does anyone know a rough cost to get it looked at?
no, it could be anything.
just send it off.
Have you got a test light or multimeter? Test that you are getting power from your mains and also from headunit (tigger cable), if you are then make sure the amp is properly earthed. Still no luck and none of the fuses are gone then the amp needs looking at.
It is possible that one of those cable's isn't supplying power or the amp isn't earthed to cause that. See how you go, good luck
alright, thanks guys!
