Cool 4" speakers in the VP

    G'day all

It's very likely that a thread like this existed before the tragic obliteration of JC...how on earth do you put regular 4" speakers into the holes where the stock ones were? There are 3 screw holes on funny angles!!!

Anyone had any experience with his task?? Share your ideas, so I can do mine :P

yes you can by bending/cutting off the 4th tab on the new speakers. but it would be better to get some VR/S door pods. then you can get a decent set of components which will sound a world better than the 4", which are pretty hard to get a decent pair of 4" anyway

what do you do when there were only 300 of your car made and you don't want to butcher your trims, but want to keep it looking stock

heh well, not many people have a 1/300 car! you could always buy a second pair of VP door drims and fit the VR/S pods without worrying about butchering your original ones, plus they look stock, but your car is far from stock anyway and no 4" speaker can to my knowledge outperform a good pair of 6" components.

and no pair of 6in splits can match 4 6x9s on the parcel shelf. I have my stereo sorted for now

I have found another pair of trims, but still not sure i want to cut them up.

damn you must like to keep your passengers happy and all you get are stingey 4" up the front! I suppose im pretty selfish when it comes to the car sterio, let the passengers have second best lol... i got 6x9's and a 12" sub up the back to keep everyone in the back pleased but it sounds sh*t up the front. so im going to amp my new front 6's and run the 6x9's of the headunit how are you running 4 6x9's?

I never have back seat passengers.

The 4 6x9s are better than the sub i had, and thats all i need. I'd rather hear the motor than win a DB contest.

Theres 2 on each side of the parcel shelf, running through the amp. the 4ins are straight to the deck.

What about if there were only 130 made of your car I have also been trying to find the best pair of 4" to replace my ones, I also don't wish to butcher anything. Is it possible to get 3 way 4" speakers? What are your recommendations for 4".

I couldn't recommend anything, i just have R series Alpines in there. As i said, the 6x9s do the job for me, and they are alpines too, but i spent more on my exhaust, i wanted engine sound, not music!

the best 4" i could find were MTX 4" components for around $220 mark. Then you have to find somewhere for the tweeter but you will still have mounting issues for the woofer. you may only be able to get 2 screws in, or have to bend/cut the 4 mounting tab off the woofer.

Ive got 4inch soundstreams in the front, they were around $200 and they sound mad! ive got all my speakers ampd up. Tho what i really wanted in the front were some 4inch focals, focal are excellent and if they fit i would have put them in. I got my soundstreams put in by gary's car radio tho so i didnt see how much space was under the covers. I will get the name of the soundstreams and post them cause i havent heard anything better. They are co-ax by the way.

    have a look at focal
    100cv1 4 inch co-ax. $200rrp
    100cv 4 inch co-ax $330rrp
all the way up to $600.
hope that helps, these speakers will sound decent unlike most 4 inch. plus they will probably have some holes there you can use or just drill into the basket CAREFULLY.

Actually i'd hate to be around you in traffic, because you'd be too worried listening to your fully sick speakers tp be bothered paying attention to the road

A joke is a joke, this is a thread about 4in speakers, not whats better splits or 6x9s

i agree i have MTX 4" splits in the front.........was easy enough to get around the mounting problem and they sound great amped i just fade the sound to the back a little bit so they dont tear my ears open as they get really loud when amped........

I got Alpine in mine Cogez, you've heard them. The 6" splits in my SS are 100x better though.

    Have fun

Stereo shops have a BAD HABIT OF DOING THAT. $700 for 12" Alpine type S and mono amp.

*12" sub WHICH BLEW UP this morning. Not the fault of the sub, I overdrove it.
But it's OK, Alberts are looking after me now, I've got a double 12" type S box going in tomorrow morning You'll get to hear them this week cogez mate look forward to seeing ya

type S's don't too bad when there is 2 together but nothing compares to type X's in the alpine range!! I wish i could afford to be running type X everything in my car

I've never had the pleasure of hearing the Type X gear...but I definitely plan to one day!! I've heard great things about them.

And yeah Cobez, 2 of the new S type 12"s are amazing! They just put out so much sound, so effortlessly. And I'm only running a 450W Alpine mono amp.

If ya can afford it, go with 2 TYPE R 12"'s, they will make your TYPE S's sound like paper cone tweeters.

Type x subs etc are quite impressive IMO, the bass clarity from the twin 12" type X subs i heard were fantastic!
