I went to put a new battery in my 99 S ute today and after I did I found that my radio/cassete was gone, ( it's a standard eurovox that came in the car when brought new).
In the little screen to the bottom left, where the time used to be, all I have now is a blank screen?, and if I push a button I will get the number of the button I pushed, then after a while it goes to 4 verticle lines accross the screen?, Is there some certain way that I am meant to reset?, I also tried playing a tape, it did play, but it was so soft I could hardly hear it???, anyone know what I've done wrong?, cheer's Ian...
As you would now be able to tell, I am not very good at any of this stuff, thats why I joined. I dont understand what you mean by security card?, and no, I dont think I have one, I brought the car second hand and dont have anything like a security card... Is there another way around this problem???, and again, thanks for the help, cheers Ian...
The radio needs a security code as supplied on the security card when the car was purchased. If you head into a Holden dealer with your rego paperwork and be prepared to pay a fee for the privilege they will be able to give you the code. Depending on the dealer or if you can find someone you know you might get it done for zilch.

dig around in your glove box and log books and search all over in the cabin, its a credit card sized card with info about the, stereo's code, VIN, Model # etc. and the instruction manual, if u have 1, should tell you how to unlock the stereo.
holden does not charge you a fee, if they did they would pocket the money, seriously happend to me yesterday, just ring up your local dealer and tell them that you need your 4 digit pin number too reset your radio, they will transfer you too whoever does that type of stuff and tell them again you need the radio code, they will ask for your vin number which can be found on your registration sticker or on your rego papers, tell them the vin number and they will give you the 4 digit code, use the numbers on your radio too type in the code and bobs your uncle your radio works again.
Holden have and do charge a fee, like I said, depends where you go and who you know. I have an invoice here to prove it from when I knew no better and walked in.
i called a holden dealership commonwealth motors and didnt get charged, i dont know anyone that works there, i didnt even have to go in.
Like I said, depends where you go. Unless you are prepared to call every dealership in the country I wouldn't be stating that Holden don't charge for the service when clearly some do. Obviously it's something worth ringing around for, but honestly for the small price its probably just easier to pay for it if that is the way some of them operate.
how much did they charge you? some must have harsh company policies. but for anyone that wants it done free call 02 6121 2800 and asked too be transfered through too the tuggeranong centre.
Yes, you were spot on, not that I ever doubted you, went to the holden dealer, told me it would be $33 but then once he had the code he told me he couldn't be bothered with the paperwork, so got it for nixx, but again, thanks...
the security code is usually written on top of the stereo... but you have to remove it to see it... iv'e replaced 6 standard units in VT commy's and each one had the code on top...
Yeah I would have thought that would defeat the purpose of a code in the first place. The whole point of a code is if someone steals the unit then it is rendered useless unless the person could prove otherwise.
it is scary how easy it is to get all your codes from holden - the systems in place for protecting the vehicle codes are not good.

security codes are the biggest waste of time. All aftermarket radios exept sony don't have codes, most thiefs steal them anyway. I'd love to get the eurovox list on serial numbers and codes. Could make some money!!!
hmmm........ penny wise pound foolish, eh?
