G'Day all,
I'm installing a Kenwood KAC-849 4 channel amp in my VX and I'm planning on using speaker level inputs. I've been talking to a Kenwood repairer (to get the input connector) and he's telling me that I also need an accessory delay circuit for the amp power wire to avoid the capacitor discharge coming through the speakers and destroying them. What exactly is this discharge he's talking of? will it actually do damage? and has anyone made up their own delay circuit for this purpose, if so how?
Cheers
Sounds a bit suss to me, but ive never used level inputs tho, just had RCA's, soo unless its got sumfink to do with that which i dont think so.
Sounds like its a delay for the main power to the amp, all you need on that is the appropriate fues for the amp draw, you dont want delay in the power, coz it wont power up the amp asap.
I think he is just tryin to confuse ya.
But i could be wrong, ive never heard of a delay circuit for stezza's
I'll try and explain what he said a bit more. He said that it only happens when using speaker level inputs and because you have to use the accessory wire as the turn on wire for the amp, the amp is on before it gets a signal and thats part of the problem. comments?
OK i get cha, but a normal rca setup would still have lag, as the amp powers up at the same time as h/u soo there is always time inbettween when the amp turns on and the first signal is sent from teh cd being loaded.
But i would probly listen to what they say as ur sending 18rms into the a amp with out a signal by logic, and that would be gettin ampd n sent to the speaker
calais cruzin yes he will probably need a soft start relay. pretty much as he said there will be a pop from the amp and this can damage speakers.
