Amp and Speaker power ratings

Will hooking up a pair of 40W RMS (300W Max) pioneer 6x9s to a 4x50W RMS amp do any damage to the speakers? The salesman at Strathfield said these speakers would be fine, thoughts?

They will be fine.

I run my 6.5 splits off 540w 4ch they only rated at 75rms 200 peak, they been fine for over 18months running of one ch at 125rms

My gain is set to about 1/3
