Default lookin for help with audio system

    hey

im thinkin bout puttin in an audi system in my vs wagon. looking at some splits for the front, new head unit(ipod compatible), 4 chan amp, and im tossing up between gettin a sub or 6x9 for the rear. if i go the sub id be leaving in the 6" in the rear that i have now just for some fill in, atm they are pioneer TS-G1641R (160 watt, 6").

i was hopin someone could help me out with decent products to put in for a renable price. i realy dont have to much idea when it comes to car audio. im lookin at around 700 hopfully. although i could go abit higher.

any help would be greatly appreciated

ok, first of all 6x9" wont produce really anymore bass than 6" un-amplified.
In my opinion dont skimp out on the fronts, shop around and listen to a few 6" splits first, a good pair of 6" coax's will do for the rear. get your 4 ch amp and run front and rear RCA's so later you can easily add a sub if you want some real heart thumping bass, a 10" or 12" should do the job nicely.

yer thats what i was thinkin was the go from reading what other people have wrote on these forums. i was looking more for brands ect, for the speakers. from what i ave gathered from reading around jaycar make good amps for entry level and price. the guy at auto barn the other day recommended an alpine vpower amp 700watt, and alpine type r splits for the front.

    any thoughts?

    also

i was down at strathfield today and they said to get jbl split(229$) for the front and jbl 6"(109$) for the back, 4 chan pioneer amp 600watt(299$, to power all the speakers). the guy also said that if i wanted a sub to get a seperate 2 chan amp to power it because if i split the 4 chan to a 3 chan to do front speakers and a sub, he said the sub would be under powered. so he thought a lower power 4 chan to do all the speakers and a 2nd 2 chan amp for a sub.

see i come from another view . the 6x9's put out a better sound them most 6 " for the back weither u have subs or not .. i rather go 6x9 the sound quality is alot better .. but it comes down to personal prefrance i guess . personally the best cheap system would be a pioneer head unit , 6" fronts 6x9's at rear , all going through a amp , and another amp with a sub , putting out enough power or 2 subs depending on how much u like the power .. when u look at items forsale if it says wrms , thats means its close to double that power in max wattage , so if ur mixing pioneer for instance, a 1000w sub (pioneeer max watts ) and u see a amp 500wrms then that amp would power the sub perfect ...

pioneer are best for head units , not so good with speakers ( u gotta pay for what u get) and subs are good , amps are over prices and pointless ,

go down to jarcar they got some good stuff for a cheaper option ..

    ended up buying:
    sony xm-sd14x amp
    jbl gto637 6"'s 4 the rear
jbl gto607c splits for the front

bought the wiring for the amp i got 2day and the rca's for a 2nd 2 chan so if i eva want to put the sub in it will be easy. probly end up seeing what it sounds like as it is now, and if i like it i will leave it if not ill add the sub.

also wondering what the best position for my amp would be. im trying to keep it out of sight but im starting to think that it may not be possible. any suggestions
