Digital vs Analog Amps
Hello all. Id just like to get some peoples opinions and thoughts on digital amps opposed to analog amps.
As some of you already know, 'Response' aka 'Jaycar' have them. Well one at the moment which is the 4channel 4x100wrms.
I had a look over the few specs of the 4channel digital and analog versions and compared. The digital draws less current, the analog has a higher Signal/Noise ratio and is $100 cheaper. But what is the sound quality really like of a digital amp compared to an analog amp and what do people prefer?
i chose digital because i love the efficiency of them. Many will argue that digital amps lack the sound quality of the analogue ones, however chuck a search on wikipedia about ICEpower. Interesting stuff and definitely and i reckon it'll get really popular in the future. Demo eclipse's line of digital amps and you will soon agree
You should however use the term 'digital' to describe full range class d amps loosely as technically its not 100% accurate...
im yet to listen to jaycar's full range digital amp however so i cant comment on the quality of it
it depends on the application and enviroment that the amp will be installed.
also might want to add valve, the true analogue amp!

they make valve amplifiers for car audio??? lol
they do but they arent common
because they are so freaking expensive. makes a human reign look like something you would buy with pocket change!

Soundstream 'Human Reign'. Class A amplifer. bezz if your after efficiency then I wouldnt even look at one.
Btw, they have changed the look of them.

The soundstream rep was in Adelaide the other week and he said they werent bringing that style in as yet a long with one other product I asked about. Not that I could every afford one, or would actually buy one... I was just curious. But a few months ago he also said no R1 subs in 15" but now I have 2 of them.

my mate works at the company that designs these amps in liitle old adelaide - each goes for about 20k each. Now to figure out how to smuggle one out...

not if you look at it purely from how well they serve their intended purpose... i'd like to see a car audio amp claim inaudible amounts of distortion
bezz its different.
you cant compare them.
i would like to see you have that halco set up with speakers of the same caliber, tuned and everything else be able to be moved like a car can be........

mate an amps an amp. Im not talking about comparing hifi to car audio, im talking about comparing individual amplifiers based purely on their specs. Now jump down off your high horse :P
your not talking about compairing hifi ti car audio, but you are.
