today my sub started makin weird noises and im not sure wat the problem is.
first of all the cd player is a standard vz unit with a "phreddy rca mod" done to it, sony xplode rca, boss 1000w amp, alpine vtr 10 inch sub.
now the sub turns on to the music as it should for about 5 seconds then stops and makes a consistant thump every 2-3 seconds.
the green indicator light on the amp comes on when it thumps but the red warning light is on in the 2 second gap between thumps.
the remote wire is fine. even jsut tried from acc just to double check
main power is fine
it still makes the thump with the rca un plugged from the amp
ive unplugged the sub and it still does the weird thing with the green and red warning lights.
so the onky thing left to assume is my amp is rooted???
any help appriecated
had the exact same problem with a mates amp.. turned out the amp was getting wet because of a boot leak. left the amp in the sun for a bit and worked again.
nah its deffently not gettin wet. it was working fine in the mornin then it just stopped.
well if the red protection light is coming on then theres something wrong. maybe overheated? where/how is it mounted? make sure that theres a clean earth (no paint, rust.etc in between chassis and terminal). no offence but boss amps have a reputation for problems so it could be anything.
dont worry mate im not offended. cant expect much out of an amp you pay $80 for a few years ago.
it has a good earth direct to bare metal car body.
heat may be an issue its mounted under neath the parcel shelf. the right way up in its own little cradle. so there is limted space for heat to escape, but it has its own fan inbuilt plus ive added two high speed computer fans. but when it stopped workin my 2 fans were not switched on.
Honestly, Boss amps are sh!t and are known to overheat. A lot of people have also reported them to have caught on fire, how true that actually is I don't know, but I do know that they overheat easily. Make sure those fans are working, or better yet get yourself a decent amp. A Jaycar amp for a couple hundred bucks will be a very good upgrade and not too expensive.
haha yeah iv heard of them flaming up aswell. probably better off upgrading. or if your up to it and have any experience with electronics, open the amp and inspect for any visable damage (eg. heat affected areas)
hey u know how the jay car amp was mentioned i have a 800 mono block jaycar amp and at the moment the protection light is coming on and this is the second time this has happened i had the amp for 2 months it kept coming on the guy at the shop checked my wiring it was fine the position allows enough air for it and i got a replacement amp cause i was wrecked so i got my new one and now about 2 or months later its happening again not happy at all. my wiring is perfect i don't know what it is i works and then just cuts out when ever it wonts and when u want to look at it to check it out it works fine really annoying! any answer much thankful.
