    Default Kenwood head unit trouble.

    Hi guys,
I decided to pull my amp and sub out and just run 4 speakers off the headunit. Now i had my old am connected and 2 speakers running of it, i pulled that out and pulled my stereo to wire up my speakers and stock speakers for the front, i touched the wires together just to make sure i had sound. Then i wired them all up and put the stereo back in. I went to play music and PROTECT came up on the screen and it was flashing, i disconnected all the speakers and it stopped flashing but PROTECT stays solid. It says in the manual if this happens consult your nearest service center but i was just wondering if anyone knows how i could do it myself, i tried reseting the stereo but no luck. My head unit is a KDC-MP336.

    Thankyou

sounds like you shorted out something. rule number 1.. disconnect battery when playing with live wires of any kind.

Yeh it says that if PROTECT comes up it means there is a short circuit on the speaker wires, i disconnected the wires from the back and it still is up. Also i did have the battery disconnected, unless when i turned it on there was an exposed wire.

well if it means that theres a short, pull out head unit, make sure all wires including unused wires are properly insulated. looks like the unit may be damaged tho so may have to get it serviced.
