gday guys im new to just commodores
just after some opinions about an audio system im gonna put in my vs commodore...
ive got
pioneer head unit
220w sony splits
350w pioneer 6"9
jbl 15" sub
2 channel monbloc amp
i was thinking that ill just run both splits and 6"9's off the head unit and have the sub connected to the amp because moneys a bit of an issue atm..
will it be a big improvement over standard? im after a good sound system to replace the stock one but nothing over the top... i no it aint going to sound as good as if they were all amped but is it worth spending the extra money? im after a good sound system to replace the stock one but nothing over the top
if moneys an issue ditch the 6x9s and buy a 4 channel amp to run the front splits and the sub. Judging by the brands I'm guessing you've been to strathfield. I would look elsewhere, particularly specialist shops and see what they think. You may think they will be too expensive, however this is not always the case.
In my opinion if i was on a thin budget, I would look for a headunit with at least 2 sets of rca pre outs on the back. This will allow for easier expansion in the future.
For the front splits I would budget the most... these are where most of the sound will come from in your system. $300 or so will get you a really nice set, $150 minimum here.
As for an amp, i would look at a 4 channel, possibly 4x50w rms. Maybe a jaycar or equivalent.
As for the sub, if its absolutely required to begin with i would just buy a pioneer 12" of around $100 or so and go with that till you can find something better. Those cheapies go hard and are definitely good value for money.
Remember to also factor in wiring, fuse holders, connectors and installation too. Next thing id look at after the install is some sound deadening for the doors. I got away with about $100 in wiring/install when i did mine (not including deadening)- bought it at jaycar and some off ebay. If you're not confident with installing it i would recommend a professional handling it. A lot can go wrong, and it can be costly. If you do want to install yourself, be sure to do a bit of research beforehand, and ask plenty of questions. Many people here will be glad to help
Hope i've been of some assistance, good luck!
ditch the 6x9
ditch the sonys
strathfields will beat most places for prices to keep it cheeper for you
i agree with bezz go from monoblock to 4 channel run splits off it and 1 x 12 inch sub
15 inch subs really need lots power (usually good monoblock)
power cable kits are 50 bux ish for decent one to use
