I had 6 1/2 splits in the front and 6 in the rear with a 12 inch sub and felt i was missing something. In previous cars i have had the 6x9, and i think i prefer it this way.

All really depends on the other speakers in the system and what they can handle? How long is a piece of string?

instead of running 6x9s, invest in some sound deadening for your doors. This will tighten up the sound of your splits and give you a much better bass response. Couple this with a sub and set your gains and filters correctly and you will have an awesome sounding system, as opposed to a muddy distorted sound coming from the 6x9s.

Oh and there is no need to clutter up your system with so many speakers.

Choose a high end front set of splits, replace your 6" speakers in the rear doors, invest in a good 4 channel amplifier, get a decent sub in a CUSTOM made subbox, and get a good monoblock to drive it.

Oh and dont forget earthing kit under the engine bay to improve the earth transfer thru the body.

one way to find out is to plug that puppy in and see how you like it! LA is like the little brother to Rockford Fosgate , so i think you'll be happy enough with the sub - what enclosure do you have for it now? (i love RF gear myself so beware i am bias T series amps = awesome - if you feel like kicking it up a notch they are available from forum sponsor Adelaide Pro Sound)

Cost of custom box will depend on what you want but it wont be cheap. It must be designed to suit the driver based on the TS specs but its usually better to copy a design from someone with real world experience with that sub (although modelling can give a very good indication.)

    The answer is NO.

You dont need rear speakers either. Put all that extra money into great front splits and deadening and you will be very happy.

Stereo is two channels, left and right. Having the 4 channels is simply to vary the volume bias from front to rear. Unless you're setting up 5.1 surround sound for watching DVDs, or you often have people in the rear of your car who appreciate clear music and sounds then I don't see the point of expensive rear speakers.

Of course, I haven't even replaced the door speakers or head unit in my VT... I just added a subwoofer in a std box... heck the parcel shelf rattles so why be pedantic about bass quality?
