hi got some VR\VS door pods for my VN and: 1. dont know what size speaker 6" or 6.5" 2. dont know what pioneer ones to put in it.
can someone suggest some please i have the following setup.
Pioneer DEH-P4950MP -Head
Clarion 6x9 -Rears
Sony 600w amp
Pioneer TS-W306C Sub
Sony 4" -fronts which are being replaced.
would like to keep everything pioneer can someone suggest some good fronts?
Thanks
They are 6", but with a bit of modding, you can fit 6.5" in.
As for which speakers, go to an audio shop, and test. Audio is a personal thing, so what sounds good to one is not necessarily good to someone else.
As said, 6" are the standard but 6.5 are easy to fit as well.
No one can really tell you what speakers to choose, the best speakers for you are what you tihnk sound the best. Whats your budget? Pioneer seem pretty reasonable but if youre gonna be spending >$300 on fronts, there are many other brands to look at that are much better for the money.. but if you are dead set on pioneer, these are the only ones id look at
TS-A Speaker Range - Pioneer Electronics Australia
i 3rd that.
test test test. take your own music. go when the shop will have as little as possible people, to lessen the noise.
ask the sales man to show you ALL speakers of the right size under your budget and listen to all. dont take notice of the prices, it will effect your opinion.
pioneer Ts splits are decent enough, just not at their price point.
For $300.00 there are much better choices to be made, and I'd choose carefully, as your splits play 75% of the music and are very important to your overall sound.
try Boston, Hertz, MB Quart, Morel, DLS, Eton, Focal, Seas Lotus, Scanspeak etc, for their enty level splits, and if you want cheaper, say $150 or so, theres always Jaycars pioneer eating 6.5 inch splits.
Overengineering is FUN

Morel Alpine MB Quart JL Audio

i dont rate the pioneer bullet splits highly at all, my mate has them in his prelude and they sound terribly harsh at higher frequencies. I would go even a set of Pioneer kevlar coaxials over them. Can't comment on the jaycars as I've never demo'd them
went to repco today and had a listen, i dont know whether go get just normal 3 ways or crossovers \ splits (if theres a difference).
my mate got some kenwood 6" rears and 6" crossover fronts and the rears went way harder, his head unit wasnt that good though, a rockford 45watt one. the crossovers sounded crap.
i listen to a wide range of music. mainly heavy metal, drum n bass and rap (xzibit, bone-thugs, not that poppy ****)
so something that can handle bass and mid range well.
ok mate this is what will happen:
the sound board you listened to at repco does not really do any of the speakers justice.
secondthe 3 ways will not have their tweeters pointing at when you when your in the car, SO you will loose out on HEAPS of treble because it will be disected at your feet once you are in the car.
the splits will probably sound more even once they are in the car.
but if you prefer the 3 ways then go for it.
if you listen to dnb and metal you'll want something that will be really clear for mid/high frequencies. I would definitely be looking at a set of splits, ideally something in the price range Wh33lz has mentioned above, if not everyone seems to rave about these jaycar things.
