hello. I'm new to this site so please don't give me a hard time if this topic has been covered before. Anyways I'll get to the point. I currently have a 1998 VT executive commodore and i need a couple of questions answered. I was thinking of getting the alpine 6.5" type R splits. Would anyone recommend these or are there better ones for the price. also where is the best place to mount the tweeters?in the stock holes in the dash, on the dash, on the doors above the air con vent or in the center pillar above the drivers and passengers head. keep in mind i don't want to be cutting holes in parts that will cost heaps to replace. . to fit the 6.5" splits in the door all i have to do is file bout 3mm all the way round don't i, will the holes line up or will they need re drilling. also where is the best place to put the crossovers, and no they are not going in the magazine rack thats the stupidest place to put them. no offense.

Those splits will fit quite nicely and overall I think they are quite good for the money. There are always other brands in the same price range, whether they sound better or not to you is your decision. In regards to tweeter placement I think its best to place them somewhere where they will be angled towards your face in order to give the best sound. A custom mount on each A pillar (above the vents) with the tweeter angled towards you would be a better spot, however placing them in the factory in dash location is the easiest and most inconspicuous.

I know these alpine ones that i'm looking at are bout 200 - 250 dollars, is there anything that would be better audio wise in this price range. i live in port pirie bout 2 hours from adelaide so there isn't a whole lot of things on display or other cars rolling round with decent audio equipment.

best bet would be to ask forum sponsor adelaide pro sound for different brands, he has more experience recommending speakers than i do!

for that price range i would look at the jaycar splits.
nicer and cheaper IMO.
i prefer toi mount the tweeters on the windscreen demister vents. cheap to replace from a wreckers if selling.

also as a last comment, i 100% can say that the jaycar will sound amazing because you will spend the saved money on some sound deadening and do the front doors. when you deaden the doors with will make a HUGE difference.
