Default Need some help with a custom box

Well im sorry for yet another newbie question but ive tried so hard not to make a thread asking for help but i need to hehe.

ok so i have a VS and i got 2x 12" sony explodes in a huge box, what id like to do is make a custom box or boxes to save some space in my boot.

Now.. ive done alot of research but all i tend to find is heres how to plan a box to build, now thats all good and well if you know the technical things about a sub and your good at maths for coming up with a design. im not so technically minded, if i have a set of plans i could build a box no probs, if i had something to look at to copy i could do it no probs, just getting the plans is my prob.

im not asking for someone to just make me plans, i was wondering if anyone has a link to a site thats easy for me to understand to building a box, or if someone has home made a custom box for 2x 12" for a VS and could maybe give me some pics or some tips.

im not looking for pro sound, hence why i have sony explode subs lol, i just want something thats gonna handle a bit of bass and not fart and distort. so will it matter a great deal what kind of box i build? can i just use the same basic dimensions of the box i have atm just reshaped to fit snugly behind my back seat?

    Appreciate any help provided.

    Hi mate,

I made a box to sit on the back lip of the VR/VS. You need to know the volume of the box that the subs want first. From there you just need to work out some dimensions. Measure the height and width that you want to get the sub box into and work from there. You can make the box any shape, all the maths is simple school stuff. You know the volume of the box and the length you have to work with, height and depth will come from there. There are free programs around that do the sums for you, just put the numbers in. You just have to work at it. Good luck, get some pics up of the finished product.

the box can be any shape you want first off.
second, what sort of box do you want? sealed or ported?
third, what sony subs are they?

i want ported, it suits my taste of music better.

im not sure what subs they are, im pretty damn sure they are explode 1000w, i cant exactly get thm out of the box they are in now cause there in a crazy design box that has perspects over it, so i need to demolish the box to get them out.

if you dont know the EXACT model of the subs then it will be impossible to design a box for them.

firstly they are sony Xplod* and if you want a ported box they are generally alot bigger then a sealed if you make it to the ideal required size that you sub needs

when i build custom boxes, i use pieces of cardboard as templates to fit into tricky and contoured parts of the boot, trim and cut to get the right size and shape, then transfer that onto MDF and cut it out.

thats pretty much what i did for my VS layout.

check out my ride link, 2 x 12" subs, your on the same boat as me.
