Default VS Series II Stereo Install..

    hi all,

Ive just basically inherited a VS from my old man so I'm looking to put a CD player in it. Nothing too fancy but just so i dont have to listen to add's on the radio.

Anyways, after googling the subject of installs for ages, I've found it is possible and seems easy enough to install a radio. But I heard somewhere In the myst that if you unplug the battery the computer has some trouble, or you need some code or something like that? Is that the same with installing a cd player?

Any info in this security or computer thing would be good, as I dont want to pay top $$ for someone to install it.

Just a bit worried, dont wanna stuff up the car, its not exactly mine yet, but will be very soon.

    thanks

The security code only applies to the factory headunit when its reset ie. disconnected/dead battery... If your removing and replacing it then you wont need the code
there is a good install guide at the top of this section.

The security code is only for the standard radio/cassette player. If you wanted to, you could throw out the security code if you weren't going to use the radio/cassette player any more.

Just as long as you disconnect the battery before you start the install, then you will be fine. Not sure if the immobiliser system will be affected by the disconnection from power though...

sorry to double post.. that guide is great! tho i thought it would be so much more simpler.
Just curious tho, how much would it cost for a shop to do it? I dont wanna get all the heater and air con stuff mixed up.
It's alot more complicated than the old corolla i had.

depends where you go. try avoid stathfields/jb etc.. they tend to bodge up jobs. I have seen it all too often so steer clear. go to a reputable car audio shop or auto electrician instead. im guessing around to 100 mark for headunit install...

give it a go, I was able to do it before I knew anything about commodores. you cant mix up the heater stuff. the two plugs on the back and vaccume hoses only go on one way.

no probs, helps here if you need it.

TIP: if you want to use stock mounting brackets, drill a new hole in between the two front existing holes on the brackets. this way the head unit will sit perfectly inline with the dash surroundings one screw on each side of the unit will hold it fine, but if you want two then follow these steps:

*mark near the top of the head unit with a texta where another hole on the head unit is.
*screw the brackets to head unit using the new holes you drilled and line the top of the brackets parrellel with the top of the head unit.
*mark a dot on the bracket inline with the texta mark you made.
    *drill another hole.

(use a ruler to make everything square)

Install it yourself. The guide posted is excellent. I installed mine a few weeks ago, and I have zero knowledge of cars, electrics, heaters, or pulling apart bits of the dash. And mine works perfectly.
