    Default Steering wheel controls...

    hey, just thinking of something and would appreciate the help/info. pretty soon now ill be getting a vt berlina, which has the steering wheel controls for the stereo. my questions are:

    1. can these controls link up to a different head unit (top range pioneer head unit, forget the product number, but its the one with bluetooth n ipod control sitting in my room) and thus properly integrate or;

    2. can these controls be removed without damage/holes to the steering wheel so that it looks like its an exec's steering wheel, or would i have to buy a new wheel and get the airbag system fixed (assuming the airbag light would come on if i changed the steering wheel)

    Cheers

    You can use a Cat 09 Interface to maintain the function of the steering wheel controls on a VT Berlina with a Pioneer head unit:

    In fact there is even one for sale on here at the moment:

    Cat09 is one option. There are some headunits that will interface with the steering wheel controls. If the VT is the same as the VR/VS the steering wheel controls can be removed and you wont notice a thing.

    Again, the Cat09 is probably your best bet. Check out here for what it supports.

    You can probably just buy the steering wheel controls from a VR/VS and hook them up using a Cat 09 system, I don't know what they will look like in a VL though.

    Shaded VS has a Pioneer Head Unit already so thats not going to help him, it might help Goon though if he still wants steering wheel controls.

    oh ok then, well i cant really give much opinion on any headunit as i am still running the stock eurovox headunit and stacker... i am thinking bout upgrading to an alpine headunit so that i can keep my controls but not really sure if it is worth it yet.

    hey mate where you located?
    autobarn logan city is selling clarion head decks for $400 (reduced from $650) supports the steering wheel controls has 6volt preouts and a heap of other goodies that it does! i got one for my vl and i have a set of xplod 6x9,s in the back and a set of pioneer 4" in the front both run of the deck and the sound quality is briliant (just as good as my xplod splits runnig of my fusion amp in my vs) just a thought
    heres a link to the unit and its features!
