Default Vx sII stock head unit but better door speakers how?

I have a series 2 Vx commodore which from memory came with 6 speakers from factory (note the sound system is stock so no speakers in the parcel shelf) . I just want to know if its possible to keep my original head unit but replace the front and rear door speakers with something more powerfull and better sounding. I need something that wont require a huge amount of modifying like removing the seats etc. It just sounds so crap when compared to my cousins stock magna vrx lol.

    Any help would be appreciated......

Replacing the speakers is easy enough, but most people will tell you that replacing the head unit will improve the quality of the sound far more than replacing the speakers.

I can see where your coming from but I really want to keep my stock head unit. How much improvement can I expect, if its a pretty noticeable output over stock then why not I'll put the new speakers in. Also what speakers will I need and can the stock head unit handle the excess output of the new speakers ?

first off the headunit creates the power.
next putting in better speakers will only make the sound tinny and harsh because the stock h/u only has so much power.
    next whats your budget?
so you have 2 options, either add an amp and new speakers and run them off the stock h/u or get a new h/u and add amp with speakers if budget allows.
you will get the best performance per dollar spend if you keep your h/u and get phreddy (a member here) to put some RCA outs (to get the signal to the amp) and then amp some new speakers.
