Hey Fellas
Just been looking around on the alot of the threads posted & I need some advice on what equipment/accessories I will require to setup up a pretty descent sound system.
I currently have the stock standard system that comes with the vx, i am not really into having the massive sub-woofers placed in the back of the boot as after a while it will just get annoying for me.
My budget is around $1000 mark witch is fairly reasonable & just can anyone help me out would be great
decent head unit with atleast 2 pre outs (and what ever other features you would like to have), a jaycar 100wrms 4 channel amp, 6 inch splits for the front doors ( go in and have a listen to what you think sounds good, bassy is better as you will not have a sub). and maybe unhook your rear speakers and put 6x9 inch speakers in the rear parcel shelf), the best 6x9's ive heard are the pioneer kevlar which you can get off ebay for around 200 i think off an ebay store called bit audio. that is where i bought mine from a couple of years ago but sold them as i now have subs. are you installing it or are you paying? so all up let me work it out
head deck=280
amp= 299
splits= 220
6x9's= 200
that equals 999, add some wiring and install and id say you will be at $1200
Install of that equipment including wiring doesnt cost $201.
hey it was midnight, say 350
maybe ask around for a quote on a package deal installed? although an outlay of $1500 would be what i would be going for, as $1000 dosent give you alot of room to play with for extra things like wireing/ rc cables/battery terminals/fuses ect and its here where people run out of money! just my 2c worth!
basically i am just looking at what eqipment i need to purchase to get some really good sound pumping through
does anyone think its worth getting a sub-woofer?
i would rather get it professionaly installed, saves times and frustration!
does anybody have some pictures of vx's that have new sound systems installed?
any advice/tips
just throw it at me!
definatly get a sub!! imo i would get two 12"subs as a vx is a big car and whatever subs you get the sound will have to penetrate the back seat into the cabin , although one good 12 can also do nicelyi have two 12,s and they go hard as in my vs calais, you also will want a good amp to power the subs
just tell whoever you speak to what you want and what budget your on, and listen to as many different types of products that you can and then weigh up whats good value for money and go for it
heres a few pics of what i have in my vs calais the box,s have only just been made about 3 days ago so please excuse the lack of carpet! they where made by my dad and me (he,s a carpenter) and the box,s have been matched to factory specs! also excuse the messy wiring i havent got it hidden yet!

mate if your getting it install professionally you wil probably get an ok h/u, front splits and an amp.
$1000 does not get you far if you dont do it yourself.
as for a sub, you could fit it in but the system will be....... in a word crap.
(cxcxcxcvcvcv: you do know 2 12's is really no different than one 12, in terms of SPL)
the theory tells us that double the cone area, gain 3db. 3 db correlates to a doubling of sound intensity. However, due to the nature of the human ear and human hearing, 3db does not sound twice as loud despite being so on paper: the necessary distinction is between "loudness" and "intensity". 10db difference is accepted as twice as loud
doubling the cone area does not necessarily automatically gain 3db. Physics determines this. It is just easier for the purposes of illustration to assume the "best case scenario" that is adding one sound to another sound of the same amplitude will gain you 3dB. (edit: Further, get the phase spot on correlated and youve got yourself 6db but we wont get into this)
Factor in differences resulting from optimum loading of woofers, allowing the pressure waves room to travel into the cabin etc, then your theoretical 3db could be reduced to 1 or 2, which may be noticeable it must be wayed up against the increased cost of another driver and its enclosure.

2 subs would definately be better but you have to make sure that the amp is able to power it otherwise it will overload but it depends how much boot space you wanna lose this is my sound system in my vx.
vxboomer: did you read any of the above or just quick post?
cxcxcxcvcvcv: but with 3 subs then you will be talking around double the loudness. the scale is not linear, obviously. but 3 subs in a daily....
also remember to work the system as a whole, no good having crappy speakers if you have a good sub/s. you need the system to be balanced with minimal eq adjustment.
looks real good matedid you do the install yourself?
cheers for the info garfa
yeah i have a set of xplod splits up front and just the factory rears in the back and it actually sounds pretty goodi was suprised actually as i thought that i would be disappointed with the splits but they sound really clean and crisp when turned up, (probably mostly due to the amp)! im not to worried about the speakers in the back as they are for rear fill and sound quite fine for what they are! overall im happy with the system as its loud enough for a daily driver with truck loads of bass when needed, and as a last upgrade maybe some speakers for the back once the factory ones give out
although the system that i am building in the vl calais will be another story![]()
Okay!
I have a list of the items that I am looking for off the internet and about to buy!

Now the probably most important question that I am having trouble on
What AMP will I need i.e how many watts and will i need two of them as i am not sure!
I just need help!
I havent looked for any front speakers yet but if anyone can reccomend me something for the front would be great!!
some one?
anyone please?
mate for a start up amp go with the first post left, jaycar response 4x100wrms. they go off, i pulled 118db with one of those amps and 4 jvc fs6 splits, no sub. well priced too.
run fronts of it and bridge the other two channels for a sub of some sort or straight onto the 6x9s, should do well.
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.
PM with any info.
So In A Nutshell
What Products Do I Need
So I Only Need One Jaycar Response 4x100wrms To Run What I Have?
Will It Power The Sub That I Have Too?
if you are buying from the us i would recomend indoaudio.com, they are great to deal with and products are genuine and not reconditioned.
JTU: start another thread asking your questions. you will get many answers.
And then when u buy from INDO AUDIO, look at the US to AU conversion plus shipping and then visit your local store and you will find you can get Aussie units for similar price with full LOCAL warranty.
