Hi Guys,
I m currently looking in getting some splits in my vq statesman. I ve currently got 6 inch speakers on the doors and 4 inch on the dash and 6x9 on the rear shelf. I was looking at getting a set of Alpines Splits Type E - 6.5 210W PEAK POWER and RMS Power 35W $220 Installed. My budget is around the $250 mark. What are peoples thoughts on these splits, and is clarion a better brand for splits?
cannot comment on either clarion splits or the alpine splits as i havent heard either but autobarn logan city has clarion splits for $150 reduced fro $200! im thinking about getting a set for myself!
alpine type e are pretty crap i think it goes in order of type e,s,r think jb are the only ones who stock type e, have a look around to see whats on special or wait till after christmas for a good buy.
clarion splits crap over the type e and s but arent as good as the type r's
youll pick up something good for $250 imo. id reckon head down to the shops and hear the components within your budget going. although hearing them in a demo wall wont give u a full scope of what they'll be like in the car itll give u an idea of the note/volume/tone etc they put out. take note of which set appeals to your ear irrespective of brand and go from there. the type e/s alpine speakers didnt impress me, i think theyr mainly out there to enable lower budget consumers to be able to say "i run alpine mate"
sorry 4 a highjack but just wondering wot a split does? should i get some?
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
well they are basically just a pair of woofers (speaker ranging from 4-6.5in) and a pair of tweeters (small dome type speaker that is usually around 1in diameter) running through a crossover. the crossover filters or 'splits' the different frequencies of sound and directs the higher frequencies (treble) to the tweeters and the lower frequencies (bass & midrange) to the woofer. im sure someone can explain it a lot more detailed than I....
yer i would definetly recommend splits over coaxials as they are usually a lot clearer because each particular sound is played through the most appropriate type of speaker to play it. any decent car audio set up will be running splits, at least at the front of the car
thanks mate
do u think it would be worth getting some tweaters then

lol, nah when you buy a pair of 'splits' it will be packaged with everything - pair of woofers, pair of tweeters, pair of crossovers and wiring etc, everything you need. didnt mean to confuse u mate
Beauty, thanks for clearing that up hey.
i was going to leave to stock stereo 4 ages but i got a set of subs for nothing so im going to up grade

sambo, please try not to post the same question, especially into other topics.
i would really reccomend just holding off for a bit mate and saving some extra cash. everyone wants good sound and clarity right? JB Hi-Hi are doing Alpine type R split packs for cheaper than ever lately and they are one of the hottest speakers around, rediculously in demand, for 4 speakers, 2 tweeters and 4 networks, they would cut you a deal for $500. Now $500 for sound that good and clear is excellent value. Thats my 2cents worth anyway haha
