but a tip. dont drill the holes right through other wise if you change amps. you will have holes there for the air to escape. it will sound dodgy.

ive heard that the bass can wreck a sub if it's right in front or mounted to the box as it rattles component's loose or something correct if ive been told a porky as i had the same idea of mounting it to the box

mounting to the enclosure will reduce the life of the amp. the excessive vibration will increase the risk of components failing.

Yes it does. When I had my sub and amp installed I asked the installer about this and he said that while it increases the risk of component failure, its not really something to worry about on a fairly basic setup and that in his 20 years of installing car audio equipment he has never had a single amp that had failed and he mounts them this way all of the time and if one had failed you can bet he would know about it with his lifetime install warranty. But yeah you are totally correct.

Mine would be so easy to steal, the amp is mounted to the sub and it is secured with two very visible clips. LOL oh well thats what insurance is for.

or you could bolt it to the underside of the parcel shelf. or possibly mount it to the back of the rear seats.

you can mount it to the underside of the parcel shelf, but I would suggest make a cradle of some sort so that the amp is mounted the right way up. otherwise it will render the cooling design useless because heat rises and the PCB will cop it making it prone to cracked solder joints and again components failing.

    yes im bored

I cant see why. All components are solid state. A bad solder joint could be a reason, but on modern amps the soldering should be as good as that on computer parts.

haha well.. my not so old PC motherboard failed not that long ago, still havnt found the exact problem but it died (have done numerous diagnosis so dont point the finger at human error). you cant guarantee everything to be perfect thats produced by a machine. theres always room for error. its just one of those risks i suppose (unless you have warranty )

yeah i mounted it to the back on my box but then after i did it pretty much realised it would be shaking the hell out of my amp...its a kicker 12 inch comp sub n it shakes the whole dam car haha....i was thinking maybe mount it the boot n mount it somewhere rear seat on the frame or something?

still computers dont shake like subwoofers. they are mainly designed to spread the heat and not kill the computer. when you think. the sub is shaking whenever you have the radio on and if you turn it up a bit that could be pretty bad for the amp. like a boss or something but most good name brands should be able to take the beating it gets.

R u doin a custom boot fit out at all? or just utilising ur boot space how it is untouched? i think if its untouched mounting it 2 the rear seat would b the place 2 put it just make up some brackets if need b 2 help secure it properly. u could mount it under the parcel shelf as suggested but 4 a piece of mind thing i see that spot bein a spot that cops most of the heat in the boot from the out side so will b the 1st thing that heats up even tho heat shouldnt b an issue but like i said its a piece of mind thing n id rather keep my amps as cool as possible if i can.

more over why exert more external forces if you dont have to? regardless if an installer has not had an amp come back, do you want your amp to be the first???

Im guessing that was directed at me. No I don't want mine to be the first one to go back. The main reason that mine is mounted to the sub is that there wasn't really anywhere else to mount it because my car is on dual fuel, I couldn't mount it to the rear seat or underneath the parcel shelf. But at the end of the day the amp wasn't to expensive and I have already got a year and a half out of it, if I only got another 6 months before it dies I would be happy.

i just spent some time in my boot and i couldnt for the life of me find a decent place to mount the amp. i still think the easiest and most practical solution is to screw it to the box.

also would it matter if the ground cable were to become wet or damp. thanks.
