hey guys i was thinking of running a 4 channel amp for my speakers and another mono bloc for my sub. is there anyway i can do this or should i purchase another wiring kit? thanks.
you will only need to upgrade to a larger gauge cable if your amps combined draw more current than the cable is rated at. although you could just purchase a new wiring kit if you think thats easier.
see here for a ROUGH cable gauge guide:
Cable Question. Urgent
you will need a distribution block if you want to run one cable from the battery.
so two eight gauge kits would give me enough power? and also they would have seperate fuses so if the fuse blows its only one amp out. and also my head deck only has rca outs can i just fit some sort of double adapter? thanks
well you will know if its not enough when the fuse blows
i take it you mean that your head unit only has one set of rca outs. you can run an rca splitter to the 4channel amp, and then from the 4channel to the monoblock via the 4channels 'pass-though' rca output which it SHOULD have if your lucky.
no i have 4 rca plugs running to my boot. i installed them so yeah. i will put a double adapter for the 4 channel and a seperate set for the monoblock. thanks again. you saved me askin someone in the shop that would have insisted i get a new deck lol
this could be pointless now, butttt, you could also buy a distributor block from jaycar for $20, thats what i did and works a treat
thanks mate. still not sure how i want to do it.
depends if i pick up a cheap monoblock.
If the player only has one set of rca outs and you use a one to two arrangement then you wont be able to vary the balance of the sound from the head unit.....if the amp has input sensitivity controls you could set it up from there for optimum driver sound....but it wont be easily adjustable.
Does the HU have four speaker outputs? Could use a pair of these for input to the amps and have your HU fader control operable.
dont know if you would call $400 cheap (i dont really haha) but the Jaycar monoblock 1000wrms is good value for the dollar,

depending on what 4 channel amp you use for your speakers you may have to go with the more expensive distributor block which is $50, just so you can run a 2gauge cable to a junction with 4gauge cable outlets
well atm i just have a 720 watt 4 channel.
and i posted a pic of my sub. what sort of power should this sub be getting?
and will 8 gauge power wire be enough or should i run thicker. for two amps. thanks guys.
another question. is it hard to wire the front speakers to my amp. in the next few weeks i will be removing my door trims. to fit the stato onesand want to wire up the fronts while im at it thanks guys.
i dont know any specs on your sub but just goin off the sub box 'championship series' im guessing it can handle alot of power and wouldnt want to be underpowered, but id suggest running a 2 gauge wire from your battery to a jaycar distributor block one 2 gauge input to 2, 4 gauge outlets. That way you can run 4 gauge cable to both of your amps, im reccomending 4 gauge not just to handle the power but also for the length of cable that the current has to run through until it hits your amps which im guessing are in your boot.
@ljs-ute: are you sure the amp/s can handle the size of the conductor in 2ga?
@haydyz: what amp/s are they mate?
@ Garfa : This is how we did my mates (dare i say it...) Ghia, the amps dont actually get run off the 2gauge as such, they get run by the 4 gauge that comes from the distributor block terminal. The current is split at the terminal. Please give me feedback though if you think ive made a balls up on dishing out advice to Haydz, as far as i know from experience and knowledge though, it should be fine.
the one for my speakers is. a boss audio 700 watt amp. and probably looking at getting a 500wrms mono for the sub. is it better/easier to run two 8 gauge cables or one 4 gauge and a distributor block.
