    Default Thoughts!

    Hey everyone,

I currently drive a stock standard vx commodore executive series 2, with the standard cd player / speakers.

Could i just upgrade all the speakers / head unit without the use of an amp? and how would it sound?

Trying to avoid running a power cable from the battery.

I like my dance / rnb type music, so bass would be good!

    Any ideas?

I'm looking at puttin in alpine gear!

it will definatly sound better with an after market HU and speakers over the stock unit 4 sure but amping ur speakers will bring out their full potentials again depending on how much bass u really want from ur type of music?

if you want BASS then a sub is needed.
power cable is THE LEAST OF YOUR PROBLEMS. want me to install it in a few minutes?
it depends what you want and how much effort you want to invest...

Can i ask why u do not wish to run a single power cable from ur battery? ONE CABLE could = good strong nice mean bass and some kick ass sounds
well just saves u cranking the hall out of some 6" to make them produce some 1cm exscursion and a lot of distortion and saves u blowing them up to.

a standard head unit would NOT blow up good 6" speakers, get good 6" and adjust your head unit for max base and it'll be a good reliable system

not blow up, burn out. not sure how easy clipped signals can burn out mids at excessive volume, but it can be lethal to subwoofers. boosting low frequencies (bass) will just make it worse. especially from a head unit.

6" speakers aren't too highly into base, but an after market head unit doesn't put out enough power to kill decent speakers, do its pretty safe. (all from experience)

well from experience.. a 50w max head unit and 50wrms speakers sounds **** with a bit of volume.

let me give you a bit of a quick guide to clipping.. clipping occurs when an amplifier (even the little IC in your head unit) gets pushed beyond it limits and starts to send a clipped signal. a clipped signal has a flat top, almost like a square wave. the voice coil then will remain stationary at the tip of each clipped wave and create excessive heat. which can lead to failure and sound like ****.

not only excessive power can destroy speakers.

I know about clipping, did all that in my Adv Dip at tafe.

I run 280w speakers (decent) with a 50w head, and i've been flogging them for 4 years with no damage.

yeah I wouldnt think that it would be too much of an issue with a head unit because you would probably have to crank it beyond flogging where the sound starts to not even resemble music to cause damage
