    Default Steering Wheel Control Interface

    hey guys
ive recently just had my jvc head unit installed into my 1998 series 3 vs caprice and i also purchased the Cat 09 interface so i could use my steering wheel controls
but there was a problem the cat 09 did not work so the steering controls didnt work, the cat 09 was sending a signal but my jvc unit would not pick it up
I Dont want to purchase a different head unit because i just dont like them
Any Suggestions Help Would Be Apprecitated,i even rang the cat 09 company them selves and they said there is no reason why it shouldnt work,we even tried a cat 10..its getting really annoying

The steering patch might be sending a signal in theory, but did you actually test it or the person who installed it? How did they know its sending a signal.

The Cat steering patches come with full installation instructions, i dont know your particular headunit but if its a direct connect to headunit via the patch then it will work, but if its not and you are using the INFRARED sender, then where is the SENDER mounted? Bare in mind the infrared LED needs to be pointing at the headunit in a direct line of sight, or as close to as possible.

Going to assume that you have set it up for your head unit using the jumpers (I think they use). You can confirm that a signal is being sent by the IR led by using a digital camera. Turn the camera on and aim for the IR led as if you were going to take a picture of it while you watch the cameras lcd. Press the steering wheel control. On the cameras lcd you should see the led flashing. That will only confirm that a code is being sent by the cat09 indicating power. I spose if there is a signal but the head unit isnt reading it, it must be the wrong signal being sent for that headunit.
