Default Where do i mount my Cross over box?! VT!. HELP!

Hey everyone i just bought some Alpine Splits, Type R's.
I just need some help on where to install them in my car!

Now im putting the tweeter in the stock position, is that where everyone else has theres? Tell me if they are ok there.

And i am using the stock speaker mounts i am just cutting off the back so the woofers fit in.

Now i just have no idea where to mount the X-Overs, (Crossovers, the little box thing!)

Where do you guys mount yours for the driver and passenger front doors?!

    Thanks alot guys in advance!

I already have a speaker cable from the door to the boot to my amp, just need to find out where to mount those bloody crossovers!
Also whats the easiest way to route the wire from the tweeter to the Cross Over?

mount the tweeters in the pillars although u can get defected for thiss umm have it pointing towards your ears , as for cross overs ive seen people make features out of them on their doors with perspex and shiz? id be guessing you could mount them in the bottom of the doors aslong as they didnt get wet? maybe?

What do you mean by pillars? As in the factory location? The top right and left vents near the windscreen?

Does anyone know any other simple ways to mount or place the cross overs?

i know mines a VN, but i hid mine behind the dash. one is screwed into the plastic behind the glovebox. if you open the glovebox you can see the screws holding it in. the other is mounted up above the bonnet cable. im not sure if you can do similar on a VT

dude put them in the stock spot, that way they reflect off the windscreen. putting them up high looks cool but stuffs your sound stage up, its like putting the singer behind the crowd and the band in front, just throws it out. for the quickest and easiest place to put the cross over, slip your hand up beside the accelerator on the kick panel and at the top is a opening where other wiring is hidden just slip it in there with some excess wiring to stop it rattling, same for passenger side. mine sit perfect just there, other wise double sided tape them in there. i went for the hidden stocky look, if it wasnt for the tweeters mounted in my rear doors you wouldnt see anything.

    give it a shot
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.
    PM with any info.

+1 for the kick panels - it keeps them out of the way, and unless you're going for pose value you never need to get to them again. That's where mine are!

the best and easiest spot to put them is ontop the the black plastic guards under the glove box and steering column. you can get to them easily and, also the are more importantly, secured.

also i have no idea what strechomatic is on about. i cannot see how you could possibly get worse staging from aiming the tweeters DIRECTLY at you over the stock location under the demister vents. just because holden made it that way doesn't mean its the best way.

VT onwards have standard splits; tweeter up in the dash which is high passed (only sent high frequencies) and a woofer in the door that is sent full range (no filters on it).

Anyway, back to the original question... My crossovers were placed in the side of the dash behind the side panels that vent your air con into the door.

generally you can just trim the plastic pod to fit the speakers.
some people need/want to make mdf spacers because they want something more sturdy for the speakers to be mounted on.

I had to trim my VT Pods to fir the Alpine Type R's, they are 6.5inch speakers.
    They fit well.

Also what would happen if i ran 130wrms to 110wrms speakers??
Would they blow or just not use the full current?

How do i set my gains correctly?
Currently i have a 2 champ amp bridged at 180wrms running my sub, but i dont know if ive even set the gains correctly on that.

My speakers are connected to a clarion 4 chan which can do 4x50 or 2x130,

Should i keep my alpines at 50wrms or pump em to 130.
How do i know when my gains are adjusted accordingly?

basicly u gotta use ur ears and listen 4 distortion. 2 set the gains turn the gains all the way down fully, fade all ur sound into the 2 front speakers using the head unit, then turn the speaker volume on the head unit up fully. then from there using ur front gain control on the amp slowly turn it up until u hear the speakers faintly distort, then after uve found that spot where it distorts turn ur gain back down a lil.

doin this will allow u 2 turn ur head units volume right up and also will protect ur speakers if some clown decides 2 jump in n crank ur speakers as loud as they can go with out knowing at wat ur volume limits r.

if u still need 2 change some settings on ur head unit 2 make it sound better do so and then adjust ur gains 2 suit again, then adjust ur rears the same way.

Would you recommend i run the speakers at 130wrms or 50wrms?

All it does it makes it louder doesn't it?

Also does the same principle apply to a sub?
Seems kinda hard to know how to adjust the gains for that lol, i guess until the bass distorts?

yeah same 4 the sub 2 somtimes u may need 2 change this depending on wat sorta music is being played but if u dont have a sub controller with the amp u might b able 2 adjust this using ur head unit

really its up 2 u if u want it bridged at 130rms or not listen 2 both and see wat u rekon sounds best in ur car and with the set up u have. after uve dun that and ur happy with it u may just needa do some tweeking with the gains 2 get it all 2 sound good with all the speakers and the sub running 2gether and thats just playing with ur gains again or settings on the head unit, if ur not sure after uve dun all this take it 2 a car audio place they shouldnt charge u nething 2 fine tune ur system.

i found that realy usefull never thought of that =/ lol
back to another question in a vs commodore isnt it classed as splits if the tweeters are mounted in teh dash standard? =/ wouldnt they only be running high pass seeming there tweeters?

mattgreen: tweeters are high passed with a filter cap, with the woofer running full range.

also to add to wrx and what he said, remember that if you have set the gain and then add EQ boost to anything you can still distort the signal.

heffer: just leave the speakers at 50Wrms. there will be almost no increase in volume. if you are confident that you can hear when your speakers are distorting from being over excursed or you are just feeding them too much power then run them at 130 but otherwise leave them at 50.

I think im going crazy or that my sub is really not powerful enough for my speakers :S

It just doesn't feel the same, and pack as much punch as it did before...

I have a 12inch Fusion encounter bass pack, it has some 2 chan amp bridged at 180wrms and a 12inch encounter sub, id presume the low end stuff.

    Product Specifications

    Loaded Enclosure

    Box Dimensions: (H) 375mm x (W) 423.4mm x (L) 524 mm

    Amplfier Specifications
    Maximum Power: 300 Watts
RMS Power Output: 92 Watts RMS per Channel @ 2 Ohms
180 Watts RMS Bridged Channels @ 4 Ohms

Thats what i have, is it low end or am i just being to picky?
Or maybe i have not set it up properly :S
