Ive got a VT berlina with an alpine CDE-9881 head unit in it.
Just recently when i start up my car only the track number and duration is displayed on the head unit, the music starts and keeps playing but none of the buttons work or are lit up except for the sound level and the disc eject button, after a while of driving around the rest of the buttons will light up and i will then be able to change tracks etc.
Anybody got any ideas on what could be causing this?
Does it have a removable face? If so make sure its connected properly, that would explain your problem.

yea its got one of those removable faces but just checked it then and shes in properly so the connections must be making contact and there not dirty or anything.
As guys have said, sounds like a bad connection. If shes got a warranty get her straight back to the shop. If its out of warranty I would try pulling the face apart, checking the solder joints at the connector, giving it a clean and reassembling it. Sometimes all it needs is to be pulled apart and reassembled and in doing so it sits back properly and will work again. If that doesnt fix it and your still keen I would open the head unit and do the same thing. If youre not confident I would do that as a last option and only if you would replace it otherwise. Does it work if you really push on the face, slide your hand side to side and try pressing the buttons?
