I know the stock size is 6 inch, but how easy is it to fit 6.5 to the stock location? can I just file out the old hole and screw in the new speakers or do I need a spacer of some sort? I want to keep it stock looking so the trim has to be able to fit back over.
I have just recently done this. All you need to do is remove the existing spacer and trim it to fit the new speaker. I cut slots for the speaker cage and then cut the back part off for depth.I used a jigsaw but I am impaitent lol.
I fitted the 6.5 in jaycars and you can't tell by looking at the doortrim, it looks stock.

yeah agreed, you can fit almost all 6.5 inch in.
some may require a new pod made but only high end speakers with cast baskets and large magnet/motor assem.
you will be fine mate!
Did this very recently to my VR same as already advised just cut factory pod till speaker fits....I screwed the speaker into place by using my soldering iron to make a small hole then screw the screw into the hole whilst its still soft will mould perfectly to the screw thread giving a solid mount!
Sorry to dig an old thread, but anyone got any pics of this?
